Bolzon St. Benedict Catholic Elementary School Number 3 February 2012 School Website: www.dpcdsb.org/BENED It would seem that spring has finally arrived. This is my favourite time of year as the colours start to come back and everything is in bloom once again signifying rebirth and a new beginning. The community comes to life once again as the sounds of laughter and chatter fill the air as people walk, run, and bike enjoying the warmth of the sun after a long winter. With the longer days we can all come out of hibernation and get a bit more active. The School Advisory Council is busy organizing our last few functions before the school year comes to an end. We are always happy to have new volunteers join our team. Please consider joining us the first Wednesday of each month at the school at 6:30 pm. Volunteering is a wonderful way to support your children in an entirely different way, and they really do enjoy seeing their parents in the halls and at activities. If you intend to volunteer in the upcoming school year, please note that you will be required to submit a current Police Criminal Records Check. This will be our final newsletter for this school year. I have been blessed to work with a wonderful team, and would like to thank everyone for their continued dedication and efforts to make this a terrific year. Without the help of volunteers, we would not be able to provide the activities and events that the children enjoy. On behalf of the SAC, I would like to wish you and your families a great summer with a very good mix of fun, excitement, peace, and rest! If you have questions, feel free to contact me at: laura@digitalvisionsecurity.ca, or at the school at 519942-5980. Sincerely, Laura Bolzon and the SAC Issue It is normal for children and youth to feel sad from time to time. But this sadness doesn’t stop them from going on with their everyday activities. And it goes away on its own. Depression, on the other hand, is a sadness so severe that it interferes with everyday life. Depression is common. Researchers believe that about 1 in 5 children and youth will go through a depression by the time they turn 18. The School Advisory Council is pleased to offer a free informative evening with a seminar on “Depression in Children”. Please join us on Tuesday May 17th at 7pm in the library at St. Benedict with guest speakers from Dufferin Child & Family Services. Recognizing depression is extremely important because getting help early on makes a difference, and helps prevent childhood depression from becoming adult depression. Parent Council Newsletter – St. Benedict Catholic School – Issue Number 6 – May 2016 The School Advisory Council supports the snack program which runs every Tuesday and Thursday mornings. It is our school's mission to successfully keep this program running with the help of parent volunteers who assist with snack preparation and ensuring the safety of our children in particular those with allergies. If you are interested in volunteering, please contact Sonia McNally at sonia.mcnally@digica.ca. Thank you again for all of our volunteers for your time and talents! From outdoor games to spring challenges, discover five spring outdoor family activities that will get your family moving. 1. Sidewalk Chalk Encourage your kids to get in touch with their inner Picasso and make the pavement their canvas. 2. Tag & Chase Stretch your legs and get your youngsters to burn off some energy from being cooped up all winter with a family game of tag or chase. 3. Ball Toss Bend hangars in a circle and hang from trees and other outdoor objects. Like golf, the player with the lowest score wins. 4. Family Relay Set up a good old fashioned potato sack race, using laundry bags or old large pillow cases. The first team to complete the race wins. 5. Rainy Day Fun Challenge your kids to see who can splash around the yard the fastest, only allowing them to advance by pouncing in puddles.
