Coke/Diet Coke Investigation
Purpose: There are several steps involved in following the scientific
method. In this activity, students will follow those steps to investigate
what happens when both cans of coke and diet coke are placed in a
beaker of water.
Materials: beaker of water, can of coke, can of diet coke
Procedure:
1. Your teacher will demonstrate what happens when a can of
coke and a can of diet coke are each placed in a beaker of
water.
2. Fill in the information below as prompted by your teacher.

What happens when a can of diet coke is placed in a beaker of
water?
Hypothesis:
Why did the coke and diet coke behave differently when placed in a
beaker of water?

Examine each can of soda, and fill in the data below from each can.

Analysis and conclusion:
Based on the above, why did each can of soda behave as they did?
