The Carroll E. Furlong Memorial Scholarship Fund APPLICATION FORM Scholarship Amount is $500.00 (Non-renewable) One $500.00 scholarship will be awarded annually. The scholarship is in the total amount of $500.00. Scholarship funds will be paid directly to the educational institution upon written proof of enrollment in the name of the recipient. Normally, half of the money amount ($250) is paid upon submission of satisfactory acceptance at an accredited college. The remainder is usually given upon registration for the second semester. Scholarship Requirements and Selection Criteria: 1) The applicant must be a student who is seeking a degree from college. 2) Grade point average of 3.0 or higher. 3) Two letters of recommendation (each in a sealed envelope included with application): one from a principal, counselor, coach or teacher from a Barren County District school (high school or elementary). 4) Essay: On a separate sheet, please provide an essay (500 words or less, typed and double-spaced). Essay should be original and genuinely express the feelings and thoughts of the applicant. The essay topic is: describe one school person who has made a lasting impression on you and how they have influenced your decision to pursue a teaching career. Examples: Principals, Coaches, Teachers, Counselors, Instructional Assistants, Cafeteria Workers, Custodians, Volunteers are a few of the school personnel that can be used.
