ST. JEAN BRÉBEUF CATHOLIC SCHOOL 63 Glenforest Road Brampton, Ont. L6S 1L8 PRAYER FOR KINDNESS Father in Heaven, You have done such a marvelous job of creating us and the world around us. You have placed this creation, including all the people we meet, in our care. We come to you now asking for the grace and strength to keep a sense of kindness. We hope that by recognizing and honoring this fruit of the Holy Spirit, we can contribute to making our school a safer, more caring, more inclusive community. May kindness, the fruit of your Spirit, help us to feel the courage to act on behalf of people around us who are in need. We ask this in name of Jesus, our brother, who lived to show us your way. Amen. Phone (905) 791-8529 YOUTH FAITH AMBASSADORS On Wednesday, February 10th, Ash Wednesday, we came together in prayer and reflection as we entered the Lenten season. Bullying Prevention Education March Theme: Bullying Can Be Stopped This month we look at safe strategies students can use when faced with a bullying situation. Students learn how to deal with bullying using the ‘3 Rs’: Recognize bullying behavior. Refuse to be bullied. Report bullying behavior. There is no set formula that works for dealing with every bullying situation. Students need to learn a variety of strategies and the skill to determine when and how to apply them safely. Key strategies include: avoidance, playing with others, staying calm, ignoring, walking away, saying ‘stop’, being assertive and telling an adult. Tips for Parents: review strategies with your child help your child practice speaking assertively (role play) take time with your child to make a plan for how you want them to deal with situations Page 3 IMPORTANT IMMUNIZATION MESSAGE FROM PEEL PUBLIC HEALTH Peel Public Health will be reviewing immunization records of all students at our school. Peel Public Health must have proof that your child has been fully vaccinated (immunized) according to the Ontario immunization schedule. During the record review, you will receive a letter from Peel Public Health if your child’s record is incomplete. It will tell you what vaccinations your child needs to meet the requirements for Ontario. If you receive a letter, please be sure your child has received the required vaccination(s), then give the date(s) to Peel Public Health immediately to update your child’s record. Under the Immunization of School Pupils Act the Health Department has the authority to suspend students from school if they do not meet the immunization requirements. Students whose immunization records are incomplete may be suspended from school. When your child registered for school, you provided a copy of your child’s immunization record. The school sent this information to Peel Public Health. After registration parents are responsible to keep their child’s immunization record up to date with Peel Public Health. Your child’s record may still be incomplete if the record you submitted at registration did not show that your child has had all the required vaccine doses or if your child has become due for another vaccine since then (e.g., boosters are required between 4-6 years and 14-16 years). For more information please call Peel Public Health at (905) 799-7700 or visit www.ImmunizePeel.ca. LIBRARY Thank you to all the students and parents who return or renew their library books on a regular basis. The loan period for library books is two weeks. Students who have overdue books are not permitted to take out any other items until the item is returned or renewed. If a book is overdue for a long period of time, a bill is generated and sent home. Parents are asked to either pay the bill or replace the book so that the student can continue to enjoy the library! March Break is a great time read and students are encouraged to bring a book home from the library. Please remember that books taken out during this time will likely be due when March Break is over and should be kept in a special place in order to avoid getting lost over such a long period of time. Thank you and happy reading!
