Students seeking a BIS degree with a Sustainability Emphasis gain exposure to a diverse selection of courses in
related fields. Students interested in this program will have a desire to make positive change in society and communities, whether that change emphasizes environment, society, or economy. Courses will emphasize inquirybased, problem-solving, interdisciplinary systems approaches and critical thinking.
Sustainability education promotes the following underlying values:

economic justice for all.
 Respect for the human rights of future generations and a commitment to intergenerational responsibility.
 Respect and care for the greater community of life in all its diversity, which involves the protection and restoration of the Earth’s ecosystems.
 Respect for cultural diversity and a commitment to build locally and globally a culture of tolerance, nonviolence and peace.
