The Division includes four bureaus: Bureau of Fire and Arson Investigations Conducts fire, arson, and explosives investigations throughout the state. Bureau of Forensic Fire and Explosives Analysis One of only three in the nation and the only State of Florida laboratory that provides specialized expert forensic analysis of criminal evidence related to fires and explosions. Bureau of Fire Prevention Inspects all state-owned or state-leased properties, reviews construction plans for all new schools and state buildings, licenses fire inspectors, and adopts the Florida Fire Prevention Code every three years. Bureau of Fire Standards and Training Operates the Florida State Fire College, governs more than 30 Certified Firefighter Training Centers throughout Florida, and manages Florida Firefighter OSHA rules. Consumer Services The Division of Consumer Services helps consumers make informed insurance and financial decisions. The Division includes three bureaus: Bureau of Consumer Assistance Assists consumers with questions and complaints regarding 26 different lines of insurance through the CFO’s Consumer Helpline, 1-877-MY-FL-CFO (1-877-693-5236). Bureau of Education, Advocacy and Research Provides information and technical expertise to division staff to better enable them to educate, serve and advocate on behalf of the citizens of Florida. Bureau of Consumer Outreach Educates consumers and communities throughout the state on insurance and financial issues and, along with the other bureaus, provides insurance claims assistance to Floridians after disasters. Insurance Fraud The Division of Insurance Fraud enforces the criminal laws of Florida relating to insurance transactions. The Division includes the following bureaus and offices: Bureau of Workers’ Compensation Fraud Investigates workers’ compensation fraud including claims fraud, premium fraud, and instances where employers have allegedly failed to secure workers’ compensation insurance coverage for their employees as required by Florida Statute 440. Bureau of Crime Intelligence and Analytical Resources Identifies investigative leads in criminal investigations and tracks suspect information. Office of Professional Standards and Planning Manages training, agency integrity, emergency operations, special investigations, accreditation and budgeting. Unclaimed Property The Bureau of Unclaimed Property, under the supervision of the Chief Financial Officer, holds unclaimed property accounts valued at more than $1 billion, mostly from dormant accounts in financial institutions, insurance and utility companies, securities and trust holdings. In addition to money and securities, unclaimed property includes tangible property such as watches, jewelry, coins, currency, stamps, historical items and other miscellaneous articles from abandoned safe deposit boxes. Treasury The Division of Treasury ensures that cash and other assets held by the State of Florida are accurately accounted for, effectively invested and competently protected. Bureaus are: Bureau of Deferred Compensation Administers the State of Florida’s Deferred Compensation Plan, an employee directed, pre-tax investment plan designed to be used for an employee’s retirement. Bureau of Collateral Management Serves as a centralized deposit location for specialized handling of regulatory collateral deposits. Bureau of Funds Management Performs the Treasury functions of cash management and investing.
