Creating Catholic Conditions for Well-Being, Learning and Leading

1.0 By the end of June 2016, Holy Cross will strive to increase successful practices to support

Well Being of all students. Holy Cross will increase the proportion of students feeling accepted by students and staff within the school. Additionally, supports and practices will continue to be put in place to decrease the proportion of students reporting that they have been bullied.

5/12/2015: As Holy Cross moves forward with respect to creating a positive school climate, a number of items have been completed. Staff provide a number of co-curricular and extra-curricular activities to meet the needs of all students. Well Being team was expanded to include more staff to take part in Board level supports regarding positive school climate and numeracy. Additionally, Holy Cross continues to expand our Empowerment program which was led by our Intermediate Students. We continue with Anti-Bullying awareness through our Virtue

Assemblies and classroom instruction. Many guest speakers were brought in to speak to students regarding Anti

Bullying. (Peel Police, I-Engage) Holy Cross completed School Climate surveys where results will be used to plan for the 2015-2016 school year. Resources provided and implemented in classroom regarding Well Being. Tools for Life

- resource on Well being was piloted during 2014-2015 school year.

1.1 By June of 2016, staff at Holy Cross school will have a better awareness of the Ontario

Catholic School Graduate Expectations and will incorporate the expectations into their daily interactions and lessons with students.

5/12/2015: Staff provided inservicing regarding Catholic School Graduate Expectations at staff meetings. Staff provided with resources and examples of how to incorporate Catholic School Graduate Expectations into everyday curriculum. Grade 8 students completed exit survey regarding Catholic School Graduate Expectations. Staff communicate and integrate life roles, knowledge, skills and attitudes into everyday learning through the Catholic

School Graduate Expectations.

Building Collaborative Practices Through Inquiry

2.0 By June 2016, Holy Cross will have an increase in proportion of staff who apply their knowledge gained through professional learning opportunities, specifically collaborative inquiries within school, and will demonstrate that professional learning through feedback such as focused conversations between administration and staff.

Outcome Progress Comments

5/19/2015: All staff involved in common inquiry focused on math manipulative use across all grades. The inquiry involved groupings that were based on a cross grade perspective. All staff followed through with school inquiry, which culminated into a Math Manipulative day for the entire school in the month of May. Inquiry served to increase teacher efficacy as it pertains to Numeracy.

Enhancing Transitional Practices

3.0 By the end of 2016, there will be an increase in proportion of staff and students who are engaged in successful transitional practices that support the transitional process for all students.

5/19/2015: Holy Cross continues to have a number of transitional processes in place to support the well-being and inclusivity of all students. Staff meet to discuss transitioning from grade to grade for many of their students. We continue to provide transitional processes for new students such as Welcome to Kindergarten program. All grade 8 students are supported in their transition to secondary school via various activities, such as "Take your Kid to Work

Day Family initiative". Holy Cross meets with Ascension twice a year (Cross Panel Meetings) to discuss all students transitioning, especially at risk students.

Knowing the Learner through Assessment

4.0 by the end June 2016 there will be an increase in proportion of staff using fair and equitable practices surrounding assessment. Staff will have an intentional focus as it pertains to assessment "For" and "As" learning as outlined in the Growing Success document.

5/19/2015: Staff continue to keep at the forefront teaching practices that take into account the individual needs of each student. Processes and practices have been implemented to ensure that students have opportunities to express their knowledge in different ways in order to achieve success. Differentiated assessment and instructional processes have been established to meet the learning needs of all students. Staff take into account the learning, strengths, needs, interests and learning preferences of all students.

Responding through Effective Instruction

5.0 By the end of June 2016 there will be an increase in student performance in the area of

Numeracy as it pertains to EQAO.

5/19/2015: Common instructional practices were implemented in all grades which were collaboratively designed to ensure a clear understanding of learning goals and success criteria for all students. Catholic School Learning Team continue to gather math data from students that involved listening to, watching and interacting with students engaged in intellectually worthy and authentic math tasks and conversations in order to analyze results and share with all staff. All staff were involved in School Inquiry that focused on Math Manipulative use which was supported by admin team and special assignment teacher.
