JANUARY’S VIRTUE - SELF CONTROL
Dear God,
You have done such a marvelous job of creating us and the world around us.
Sometimes life is easy….sometimes life is challenging.
We know that you do not want us to suffer.
We know that you do not want us to make other people suffer.
We come to you now asking for the grace and strength to keep a sense of self-control.
We hope that by remaining calm in the middle of difficult situations, we can contribute to making our school a safer, more caring, and more inclusive community.
May your virtue of self-control help us to make decisions that serve the good of all your people – in our families, neighborhoods and school community.
We ask this in the name of Jesus, your Son, who lived to show us your way.
Amen

REPORTING STUDENT ABSENCES
In the interest of student safety, a call or a note to the office reporting student absences is required. Please inform the School if you know that your child is going to be late or absent.
Attendance calls can be made after school hours, seven days a week for your convenience. Our attendance number is (905) 970-9069 then press 1.
In the interest of safety, when bringing your child into the school, please proceed directly to the office to sign your child(ren) in.
STUDENT SUPERVISION TIMES
Please note that teachers are on supervision duty only 15 minutes before the start of the school day and 10 minutes at the end of the day.
For safety reasons we ask that you not drop your child off at the school prior to 8:30 am, to please pick them up ON TIME at 3:15 pm .
CROSSING GUARD
Kindly assist us in reminding children to cross with the
Crossing Guard at Leagate when coming to and going home from school. The Crossing Guard is on duty at 8:15 -
8:45 am and 3:15 - 3:45 pm. Thank you for your cooperation in looking out for the safety of all our students.
Please encourage your children to use the crosswalks for safety.
COLD WEATHER IS HERE!
In colder weather we often receive requests for students to remain indoors when students have a cold, flu, etc. If your child is not well enough to participate in all activities, including outdoor recess, you are asked to keep them home until they are well.
On extremely cold days, particularly when the wind chill factor lowers, we follow Board Policy by limiting the amount of time students spend outdoors. It is generally accepted that when the wind chill factor drops below -25°C, students should not go outside for recess. The
Dufferin-Peel C.D.S.B. Policy uses a wind chill factor of -20°
C as a determining factor for modified recess.
With the exception of these occasions, all children will participate in outdoor breaks. We ask parents to ensure that children wear hats, scarves, gloves, winter outerwear and boots.
Where possible, please put identification on your child’s belongings. Also, Primary students are encouraged to have an extra dry shirt, pants and socks in their backpack...just incase, their clothing gets wet or soiled.
TRAFFIC SAFETY
Our school driveway is a matter of great concern in regards to the safety of our students. Therefore, we are reminding you again to use the Kiss ‘n’ Ride lane to drop off or pick up your child . You cannot park your vehicle in the
Kiss ‘n’ Ride lane before school or at dismissal time during the day. When using the Kiss ‘n’ Ride program to drop off or pick up students, please remember:
We clear the Kiss ‘N Ride usually in 10 minutes.
Please be patient we are all BUSY but SAFETY comes first.
The inside lane (closest to the school) is the only lane where cars can stop to drop off their children in the morning and pick up their children in the afternoon.
Drivers should not be parking and leaving their vehicle to walk to the school to pick up their child.
The outside lane is a drive thru lane . This means that there should be no stopping and/or loading or unloading of students.
If your child is not at the Kiss ‘N Ride area at dismissal time, please park in one of the spaces available in the parking lot or circle around once more.
Students are not permitted to cross the parking lot unless accompanied by a parent or guardian.
Please do not walk your children through the two Kiss
‘N Ride lanes. This is very unsafe and drivers may not see you in time. Take the time to walk around the Kiss
‘N Ride lanes on the painted walkways.
FRONT DRIVEWAY
The front driveway of the school is for
BUSES ONLY.
CARS ARE NOT PERMITTED TO PARK, DROP
OFF or PICK UP students in the driveway or bus lane located at the front of the school.
Please refrain from blocking the driveway so that designated Board personnel can access it when needed.
Thank you for your continued support.
NO DOGS ALLOWED
Just a gentle reminder that as per Board policy , dogs are not allowed on school property at any time for the health and safety of our students and staff.
Please adhere to the Board’s policy . Thank you for your co-operation.

PEDICULOSIS
A problem which seems to occur at least once a year in most schools is pediculosis or head lice. Head lice are parasites which have been common among human beings for centuries. They are not connected in any way with dirt, neglect, and so on. Anyone can be infested with them. Unfortunately, in recent years, they have become quite common throughout North America. In order to control these pests, we shall do the following and request your full cooperation.
If even one case is found in the school, we shall inform all parents of children in that class. We will be monitoring friends and classmates, however, we would ask that you also check your own children and if you find them to have lice, we ask you to let us know so that we can help you get the proper treatment and take the necessary precautionary measures. Even if cases are not reported from the school, it is a wise precaution to check your children periodically.
If your child/children are infested, we will be asking you to keep them out of school until after they have been treated with the correct shampoo and that all the nits have been removed. Upon returning to the school the child/children must be examined in the school office.

Junior: Number Sense and Numbers count, and to add, subtract, multiply, and divide. Understanding numbers and knowing how to combine them to solve problems helps us in all areas of math.
Ask your child to help you solve everyday number problems.
"We need six tomatoes to make our sauce for dinner, and we have only two. How many more do we need to buy?" "You have two pillows in your room and your sister has two pillows in her room. How many pillowcases do I need to wash?" "Two guests are coming to eat dinner with us. How many plates will we need?"
Practice "skip counting".
Together, count by 2's and 5's. Ask your child how far he or she can count by
10's. Roll two dice, one to determine a starting number and the other to determine the counting interval
(e.g., counting by 1’s, 2’s, 3’s, etc…). Ask your child to try counting backwards from 10, 20, or even 100.
Make up games using dice and playing cards.
Try rolling dice and adding the numbers that come up.
Add up the totals until you reach a target number, like
50. Play the game backwards to practice subtraction.
