
Maintain an accurate record of all assignments on your personal Tally Sheet.
Your classroom average can be determined at any time by dividing the points earned by
the points possible.
An electronic Tally Sheet is available on my web page.
The following performances will be used to formulate a grade each marking period.
Class Participation
 Performance will be scored using the Class Participation Rubric.
 Come prepared for class with notebook, sourcebook, and pencils.
 During class, read, write, listen, and discuss lesson content.
 Utilize the entire class time to your advantage. Be ready to work bell to bell. Be on time
or have a valid pass. No students will line up at the door before the bell.
 Be respectful at all times to students and adults. Vulgar or obscene remarks, gestures, etc.
will not be tolerated and will be subject to disciplinary action. Respect the rights of
others to learn. Little conversations distract many. Save casual conversations with
friends for time outside class.
 Computer use is limited to assigned work. No surfing or game playing allowed.
Notebook




A cumulative notebook is required for this class. Plan to keep one notebook for the entire
course.
In order to receive full credit for notebook reviews, the following materials are required:
an up-to-date tally sheet, bell work, homework, class notes, written responses,
vocabulary, quizzes, tests, and class handouts.
It is suggested that you purchase a binder with ruled paper and a pocket so that quizzes,
tests and handouts may be stored inside.
Do not discard any work or handouts. You will need it to study for the final exam or to
support any grade discrepancies.
Sourcebook Entries
 Write thoughtful responses to show reading comprehension that goes beyond the literal
and that cites evidence and makes strong connections to self, world or another text in
your Reading and Writing Sourcebook, which is the text for the class.

indicates the word meaning as well as a deep comprehension of story events.
Essays

Quiz Grades

Create persuasive and informational essays that meet or exceed the PA State Writing
Rubric standards. The critical essay is a requirement of the course and you cannot pass
the course without completing the essay.
Quizzes will be administered to assess knowledge of course content.
Homework
Homework is an essential element of the learning process and is a key factor to your success in this class.
All homework will be graded, as it will fit into one of the above categories.
Make Up Work for Excused Absences
It is YOUR responsibility to find out what work was missed during an absence and arrange to make it up.
All missed work will be made up within the number of days equal to the number of days of the absence.
School Policy Reminders
Electronic devices, such as phones and ipods are prohibited.
Eating or drinking in the classroom is prohibited.
When signing out to use the lavatory, write your name, time leaving, and time returning. Only one person
is to sign out at a time. No one may leave during the first 15 minutes of class.
If an absence or lateness is UNEXCUSED, you will receive a zero for the assignment and the work
cannot be made-up.
Students displaying inappropriate behavior will be sent to HOOF.
Acknowledgement
I have read and understand the Grading Policy as outlined on pages 1 and 2 above. I understand that the
English Literacy 12 course fulfills the Pennsylvania State Proficiency requirement. If a student does not
pass this course they must retake the course during the school year or in the summer in order to graduate.
