As you develop your conscience, you will learn to make decisions that will make sure you will always have love in your life. Our conscience reminds us how to act towards other people and how to be a good friend. Sometimes it is hard for us to do the right thing, but we must always remember that the right thing to do is always the easy thing to do. A person of conscience . . . Chooses to do the right thing, even when it is hard Takes time to think and pray before making decisions Knows that their actions and decisions affect all those around them Thinks of others before themselves 940 North Park Drive Brampton, Ontario Daily Prayer for November (905) 793-8030 Father Joseph Pham Pastor Father Mani Zacharias Pastor Let us now pray . . . for the grace and strength to be people of conscience – people who know the good and decent way to act and then choose to act that way. Amen St. Anthony Remembers We live in a wonderful country, full of opportunities and freedoms we often take for granted. You can be sure that Canadian Veterans do not take our situation for granted. In times of war, armed conflict and peacekeeping, young men and women sacrificed all they knew, all the comforts, love and safety of home in order to defend the rights and freedoms of others. We owe it to those who have served our country to learn, to understand, and to appreciate the task they have undertaken. Generations of Canadian Veterans, through their courage, determination and sacrifice have helped to ensure that we will live in a free and peaceful country. On November 11th at 10:30 am, the St. Anthony community will come together for a Remembrance Day assembly to pause, pray and say “thank you” in remembrance of our Veterans. If school staff suspect any issues that may affect a child’s safety, the Children’s Aid Society (CAS) must be contacted. It is not the role of the educator to investigate – that is the role of CAS. Attendance and Punctuality We ask that parents continue to support their children in their morning routines so that they can arrive to school on time. This ensures that your child learns an essential life skill, participates in the entire school day, and that disruptions to the learning environment are minimal. If you child will be absent from school please call (905) 792-2282 and leave a message stating your child’s name, his/her teacher’s name, and the reason for absence. Thank you for your continued support. Please check your children frequently and if you find them infested, we would ask that you let us know so we can advise you on the proper treatment. If a child does become infested, we will ask you to keep your child out of school until he/she has been treated with the correct medicated shampoo and his/her hair is entirely clear of both lice and nits (eggs). When the child returns to school, the child needs to come to the office to be checked before going to class. If we all cooperate in these procedures we can address these occurrences in a sensitive manner. We may not entirely escape outbreaks, but we will be able to bring them under control. Health Tips From Peel Public Health Healthy Teeth Tips! Brushing teeth with fluoride toothpaste is one of the most effective ways of removing plaque from the exposed surfaces of teeth. Effective tooth brushing takes a minimum of two minutes and is recommended twice daily, once in the morning and especially before bedtime. Remember 2 for 2 is what you do! Brush your teeth a minimum of 2 times each day for 2 minutes each time. Brushing at bedtime is most important. If the food is left on the teeth at bedtime it can be converted into useable food for the bacteria to form acids, thereby decreasing the PH levels and causing decay. Also during the night there is a decrease of saliva and therefore less buffering of acids. Supervision and adult assisted brushing is advised for children. When choosing a toothbrush look for one that has soft bristles, a small head which makes it easier to reach every tooth, especially those at the very back of the mouth and a bulky handle which makes it easier to grasp, especially for children. Here are some important steps to follow in caring for your toothbrush: rinse toothbrushes after each use and allow to air dry replace toothbrushes when they become frayed or worn, approximately every three months Remember that toothbrushes should not be shared with anyone! Brushing your tongue will help freshen your breath. Debris and bacteria can collect on your tongue and cause bad breath. For more information please call Peel Public Health at 905-799-7700. Safe, Caring, Inclusive Schools At St. Anthony we strive to create a safe, caring and inclusive environment for all students, staff and visitors. Part of our work in this area includes providing students with consistent messaging about bullying prevention. During the month of November we will be focusing on the following key message: “Everyone needs to learn to live in peace”. Students will learn about cooperation, justice and peacefulness. Each month we will focus on an additional key message with students. Please take some time to discuss these key messages with your child(ren). Progress Reports and Interviews Progress reports will be sent home with students on Tuesday, November 17, 2015. Parent—Teacher interviews will take place for those requiring and interview at this time on Thursday, November 19, 2015. Please see interview sheet that will be coming home with students to set up an interview time if needed. Our Catholic School Heritage Each month we will highlight some key questions/answers related to our Catholic School Heritage. 1. How long have Catholic separate schools been educating Catholic children and contributing to the public good in Ontario? For about 170 years. In the early 1800s there were separate schools in many cities, towns and townships. In Peel, three separate schools opened before Confederation (1867): St. James in Malton in the 1830s, St. John’s Agricultural College (1861) and St. Patrick’s (1861), both in Wildfield. 2. Has the Ontario government always supported separate schools? Yes, as did its predecessor, the United Legislature of Canada East (now Quebec) and Canada West (now Ontario) during its total life from 1841 to 1867. One of the first pieces of legislation it passed in 1841 was the Common School Act, with a separate school clause. 3. Why did the United Legislature of Canada East and Canada West keep improving separate school legislation? It responded to Catholic parents, trustees, bishops and priests, editors of the four Catholic newspapers, members of the business and professional world, all of whom argued for legal and financial rights for separate schools.
