Prayer for Respect
Almighty God, giver of all that is good.
We thank you for the precious gift of human life.
Guide us to respect all life.
Like St. Francis, help us to see the beauty and
Goodness in all living things.
Help us to imitate your respect for life.
For the life of children,
making us glad with their enthusiasm,
For the life of young people, hoping for a better world,
For the life of the sick and disabled, teaching us humility,
For the life of the elderly, witnessing patience and wisdom.
We thank you Lord.
Like Blessed Mary, may we always say yes to your gift
of life.
May we have respect for all.
We ask this through Jesus Christ our Lord.

VIRTUE OF RESPECT
Parents are encouraged to discuss the following with
their children.
This month we will be celebrating the virtue of “Respect.”
We all deserve to be shown courtesy, consideration, sensitivity and thoughtfulness, which are different ways of saying respect. That respect should come first and foremost
from ourselves. God wants us to treat all people with the
respect they deserve.
A respectful person:
 Treats him/herself and everyone else with equal consideration and courtesy
 Uses a positive tone of voice and body language
 Avoids inappropriate words and gestures
 Listens to the ideas and opinions of others
 Says “Excuse me”, “Please”, “Pardon me”
 Avoids gossip and is kind to others
 Takes care of the environment
Please join us at our next monthly Virtues Assembly on
Friday, February 12 at either 1:00 or 1:30 pm.

which direct schools to modify recess
when temperatures reach -20 0C (with
or without wind chill) so they are outside for no longer than 20 minutes. If
the temperature outside reaches -25 0C (with or without
wind chill), the Board policy states that all children will be
kept indoors. We continue to monitor weather conditions
regularly throughout the day and make decisions based
upon our local conditions. Please ensure students come
dressed with hats, mitts and boots every day. An extra
pair of mitts and socks is a good idea, too. Should any
student need mittens or a hat, there are some available at
the office; students just need to let their teacher know.
Donations of hats, mittens and extra socks are always
welcome!
GREEN TEAM NEWS
On Thursday, February 4, St. Anne School participated in
World Wildlife Fund’s National Sweater Day. The event
is held each year across Canada to raise awareness about
the importance of energy conservation. According to the
WWF, heating makes up 80% of all energy used in homes
and schools across Canada. If every Canadian home and
school turned down the temperature of their home or
school by two degrees during the winter for four months,
that would save enough energy to close an entire coalpowered plant.
Green Team continues to monitor how waste and garbage
are sorted as we encourage students to recycle and place
garbage in the correct bins with the goal of reducing
waste. Mr. Pender’s class is currently doing a great job!
We continue to collect drink pouches. So please send
them in to Mrs. Mitchell’s class, room 101. Stay tuned for
our next intiative “The Big Gulp” in March

PARENT-TEACHER INTERVIEWS
IMPORTANT DATES
The parent/teacher meeting is an important time to share
ideas and information with your child's teacher. You can
also discuss ways to help your child develop strengths and
overcome challenges. These 10 tips will help you get the
most out of your time with the teacher.
FEBRUARY
1. Be prepared. Before meeting the teacher, think about
what you want to know and understand about your child's
school experience. Review the report card and write down
key questions you want to ask.
2. Ask yourself questions. Focus on what you want to
get out of your parent/teacher meeting by asking yourself
questions. For example, "What methods are being used to
teach my child?" or "What can I do to get involved in my
child's learning?"
3. Talk to your child before. Ask your children what
they think they are good at and what needs improving. Let
them tell you how they feel about school, the teacher and
getting along with others.
4. Arrive ready. Be sure you come to the parent/teacher
meeting in a positive frame of mind and with all the materials you need. Bring the questions you prepared in advance along with your child's report card.
5. Relax and feel confident. You know your child best
and want what's best. Remember, the teacher also wants
your child to be successful.
6. Be clear about what's being said. If you need clarification or have concerns about an answer the teacher
gives, ask the teacher to explain it further. Don't be satisfied until you fully understand.
7. Think about what was discussed. Take some time to
think about what you and the teacher talked about. If you
are still unclear about something or want to ask more
questions, don't be afraid to call the teacher to talk further.
8. Follow-up at home. Talk with your child after you
have met with the teacher. Discuss what was talked about
in the meeting, focusing on the positive and how to
achieve the goals that you set.
9. Keep a log or journal. Write down the actions you
take and any observations about your child. This is important information that can be shared with the teacher at
the next meeting.
10. Arrange the next meeting. Set a date when you will
call the teacher for an update on your child's progress or
to arrange another meeting.
