Some information about St. Agnes School
Saint Agnes School is a Catholic elementary school of
over 300 students from Junior Kindergarten to Grade
Eight, who come from diverse backgrounds. Our
school was built and opened in the 1989-90 school
year, and is located north of the centre of the City of
Brampton, in the community of Heart Lake. The school
is located within, and is part of, St. Leonard Parish.
Saint Agnes was established to support Catholic
parents in their responsibility for the spiritual religious,
moral, academic and physical needs of their children in
accordance with the teachings of the Church. We
provide a safe and comfortable learning environment
where models of Gospel values and Catholic doctrines,
teachings and beliefs are an integral part of the daily
life of our school. Our students have their Catholic faith
as their common bond. We emphasize prayer life,
liturgical celebrations, the sacraments, and the Religion
- Family Life programs. Many of our students are
involved in the school choir, which leads the hymns for
our liturgical events, including four school Masses per
year. We have a Chapel in our school.
At Saint Agnes we are proud of our balanced religion,
academic, arts, technology, and athletics program.
Assessment procedures are employed regularly to
motivate and encourage student success. To ensure
coherence and wholeness, subjects are taught based
upon the Ontario Curriculum, the Gospel values of
Jesus Christ and sound educational practices. Special
Education support is available, serving students with a
range of mild to severe needs, and providing help to
students and families.
As a community, we are involved in helping others who
are less fortunate, in our community and globally.
Students are often involved in collecting food for food
drives, support for families in need and charity drives.
ShareLife is our most important Catholic charity. Our
community also supports The Canadian Cancer Society
and the Heart and Stroke Foundation and other local,
national and global initiatives such as support for
developing African and South American countries.
The staff of Saint Agnes School is committed to
providing a curriculum that reflects the Catholic values
of the Board. We are committed to following the Family
and Board initiatives through our School Improvement
Plan, in the areas of Literacy, Numeracy and
Assessment. The excellent behaviour of students is
emphasized and expected, although we also help
students to learn from their mistakes. We try to help
students to make good choices for the future, and
encourage students to live with Catholic virtues as
their guide.
Our teachers are very committed to providing
experiences for the students in all areas of athletics.
We also have chess and reading clubs, we participate
in the Knights of Columbus Free Throw competition
and Catholic Women's League Public Speaking Contest,
and recently held a spelling bee for grades 4-8.
Our Catholic School Council meets regularly and
advises and works closely with the Principal and staff
to support school initiatives. The Council seeks to help
promote the best possible learning environment for
our students. Parents and other volunteers work very
hard to provide coordination and support for programs
such as Arts in the School and the lunchtime milk
program, as well as the organization of open house
evenings for all.
