Social Outreach Catholic Education Week May 1-6 Our Youth Faith Ambassadors have organized a social outreach initiative where they will be collecting non-perishable food items and school supplies to support Dr. Simone’s Food for Children. http://www.canadianfoodforchildren.net …please see letter for details / Also, when visiting the school, please take a look at our lost and found items, as those items not claimed will also be donated to charity. Our Catholic schools are, by definition, faith-based schools, firmly birthed in the Gospel Values of Jesus Christ. What we enjoy today is due to a history of sacrifice and determination and the extraordinary work of Bishops, Sisters, Brothers, priests and lay men and women to build and preserve Catholic Education in the face of all forms of opposition, both political and legal. The five sub-themes for each day of Catholic Education Week are: Monday: Mercy that Welcomes (Jesus and the Woman at the Well: John 4: 1-42) Tuesday: Mercy that Loves (The Good Samaritan: Luke 10:25-37) Wednesday: Mercy that Forgives (The Prodigal Son: Luke 15:11-32) Thursday: Mercy that Lives the Gospel (Zacchaeus: Luke 19:1-10) Friday: Mercy that Rejoices (Healing of the Paralytic: Luke 5: 17-26) Every year, the Ontario Catholic School Trustees’ Association (OCSTA) provides our Catholic schools with a resource kit to help schools prepare for Catholic Education Week. Using these resources as well as our own developed activities we have prepared a series of activities which will highlight how our school is ‘Opening Doors of Mercy’. Opening Doors of Mercy “Blessed are the merciful, for they will receive mercy.” (Matthew 5:7) Our school community will celebrate Catholic Education Week 2016 through a variety of ways. See details enclosed in this pamphlet. Please join us! Principal’s Message During Catholic Education Week, all Catholic schools in Ontario celebrate the unique qualities of our Catholic teachings. This week allows us to come together and celebrate our faith and how we live together in Christ. The Faith life in our school is thriving. Through liturgical celebrations, our Virtues Program and through social outreach, we are living out our faith journey each day. Every day of Catholic Education Week provides us with a focus for the journey that we embark upon together. It is our hope, here at St. Marguerite Bourgeoys Catholic Elementary School, that you come and join us at some point this week to celebrate our journey as a school community. There are many activities taking place this week at our school to which you are invited! We thank you for choosing a Catholic education for your child/children! E.
