St. Martin Catholic Secondary School Learning Plan Mission * We believe that St. Martin Secondary School fosters personal academic excellence in a socially supportive environment. We strive to instill in our students the love of God and neighbour and the desire to acquire skills, knowledge, attitudes and values which will allow them to become independent, responsible, productive and contributing members of a rapidly changing multi-cultural society. We, the staff, promote a commitment to life-long learning, family and social responsibility, environmental awareness, social, cultural and gender equality. Motto Goodness, Knowledge and Discipline Catholic Focus The mission of St. Martin Secondary School, in dynamic partnership with the parents and local parishes, is to continue to foster a school community that is grounded in the life and teachings of Jesus Christ. The Gospel message is a shared vision that is reflected in the classroom, pervades the school community and guides our service to the local community and to the world at large. We guide our students to develop their best in terms of academics, spirituality, healthy lifestyles and good citizenship so that they may attain future success in parenthood, career, and as Catholic leaders who are well grounded in Catholic Virtues and active in issues of social justice. "There are varieties of gifts, but same spirit; and there are varieties of services, but the same Lord” (ICor 12:4). Our vision is to create a faith-based unity out of the diversity of functions that form the hallmark of a well-rounded Catholic education. Through our varied shared functions, both students and staff are called to learn both how to lead and how to serve, guided by Gospel Values and led by the example of Jesus Christ. As a school community we are further committed to: • • • deepening the understanding, appreciation and practice of the Catholic Christian lifestyle, with Jesus as role model; developing graduates who are fully alive in Christ, “not only in terms of knowledge and skills, but in terms of values, attitudes and actions”; encourage approaches that support the system priorities and the principal strands of faith education: prayer and liturgy; sacramentality; morality and justice; and scripture and church. As a diverse educational community responding to God’s call, the St. Martin community fosters and nourishes an inclusive atmosphere rooted in tradition and scripture. We continue our commitment to being responsible stewards of God’s grace in the world, by modeling Jesus, as ministers of compassion and service.
