Students will learn laws of motion and conservation laws and apply them in solving problem with respect to electro static and dynamic phenomena and propagation of electromagnetic waves. LEARNING OUTCOMES We will use quizzes and exams to assess understandings of course objectives and student learning outcomes. COURSE COVERAGE Material in chapters, mentioned in the calendar provided below will be covered GRADING The course grade will be determined from three (3) tests, each of 15%, final 40%, homework and quizzes 15%. The grade scale will be approximately: A>90>B>80>C>70>D>60>F HOMEWORK POLICY Doing the homework by yourself is very important for success in this course and building the strong foundation. Your examination grades generally reflect how well you understood and do the homework. The homework will be assigned on the material covered and to be covered in the relevant learning module. Based on the homework a short quiz will be given on regular basis. IMPORTANT NOTE Experience shows that you must spend at least 3 hours for homework for each module presentation. Plan on spending about half of your time on your lecture notes and the textbook, and the other half on the homework. Carefully make notes. I encourage you to participate in the discussion board activities. Review the new material in the textbook and do homework according to the instructions in each learning module. EXAMINATIONS The examinations are timed. You must know the material to complete the exam within the time allowed (30-45 minutes each). MAKE-UP EXAMS & QUIZES Make up quizzes and exams will not be given. In a serious emergency, however, please contact me to find out how a missing grade for an exam may be determined. PARTICIPATION AND ATTENDANCE POLICY In addition to turning in all assigned homework, this course requires that you participate in various online discussions. You may also be asked at times to work in cooperation with one or more classmates. You may also be called upon to critique your classmates work. Since this course is conducted in a distance education format, it is imperative that you participate in all online discussions in order to stay current on lesson objectives. I strive to make this course similar in format to a face-to-face classroom, and I expect the same participation. If you are timid about having your comments read by others, please contact me to discuss any possible remedies. I want this course to be enjoyable and I wish to encourage open discussion among my students. If you choose not to participate in online discussions, your overall grade in this course may be adversely affected. WITHDRAW POLICY Consistent with the University policy, an automatic “W” will be given if you withdraw by the posted deadline. A “W” will be given if you pass the exams with at least a “D” at the time of withdrawal/dropping the course or “WF” if your exam score is below “D” at the time.
