ART III - THEME EXPLORATION NAME:_____________________________ LESSON FOCUS: This lesson focuses on creating a series of drawings/paintings based on one theme. VOCABULARY: Content: the subject matter in a painting or other work. Medium: 1. A particular material along with its accompanying technique; a specific type of artistic technique or means of expression determined by the use of particular materials. 2. In paint, the fluid in which pigment is suspended, allowing it to spread and adhere to the surface. Narrative: The representation in art of an event or story. Symbol: A form, image, sign or subject representing a meaning other than its outward appearance. Theme: A unifying or dominant idea, motif, etc., as in a work of art. PROCEDURE: Create four small drawings or paintings based on one of the themes listed below: decorative motif use doodles or designs as source Same subject Self portrait, figure, a single subject with different approaches. A single subject, same composition, using different media. A narrative (story) Exploration of a medium Choose your theme and develop a series of works. You may align your paper vertically or horizontally. Once you have a good idea and a strong composition, layout onto good paper. Finish, using materials of your choice.
