World History Project Goals and Objectives:
• select a country to research and prepare a visual project on
(evaluation)
• practice skills in locating information in set categories from a
wide choice of resources. (application)
• practice skills in reading, notetaking, and writing main ideas
in own words (application)
• represent information in a visually appealing and informative
way (synthesis)
• construct a project which is visually attractive and accurately
presents information on the history, economy, culture,
geography, government and points of interest of the
selected country (synthesis)
• create an accurate, hand-drawn map of selected country with
a scale of miles and legend. (application)
HISTORY: Write an interesting summary of your country’s history. It should
include major periods in the country’s development including wars and dominating
powers. You may include visual images, hand drawn or printed from a reputable
source. Describe what your country is like today and explain how it became that way.
You may wish to include information on important leaders in a short biographical
sketch.
GEOGRAPHY: Create a hand-drawn political map which includes the following:
1.) Color and label the country and all surrounding land and water. 2.) Label all
major cities. Put a star on the capital. 3.) Draw, color, and label important landforms.
4.) Create a legend and scale of miles.
ECONOMY: Describe the economic system of the country (capitalism, communism
or socialism) Include the following facts: exports and imports; GDP (gross domestic
product); major industries or businesses; exchange rate;
Name of currency and economic situation (are there any economic problems or
challenges?) You may wish to express some of the facts in a fast fact chart.
CULTURE: Explain as much as possible about the country’s culture. What ethnic
groups exist in the population? Consider the following aspects of culture: dress;
religion; education; customs; traditions; music; art; literature; and food. Pictures
would be helpful in showing aspects of the culture.
GOVERNMENT: Explain the system of government in your country. You may
wish to draw a diagram of its structure. How is the power distributed? How are the
laws made? Who enforces the laws? Tell about the current leader in a brief
biography. What are the social problems facing the country? Who are the country’s
enemies and allies?
POINTS OF INTEREST AND FAMOUS PEOPLE: Show and tell about
all of the important and well known places to visit in your country. What would a
tourist want to see? Why is the place famous? Who are the famous people from your
country? How did they gain fame? What are their traits and qualities? Write a short
biographical sketch and include a picture.
