Carlisle County Schools Arts Newsletter Music Art The 6th grade music class is currently focusing on world percussion. We are covering West African, Latin American, and Asian percussion instruments, as well as how to play rhythms from these different cultures. In visual art class your student will be completing designs for greeting cards. These card designs will be sent home with a packet that will allow you to order professionally made greeting cards with envelopes. Just fill out the packet and return it to school before the due date and your finished greeting cards will be shipped to your house. The Creative Arts class has been working on drawings of trees to learn the elements of art: line, space, shape, form, value, texture, and color. In elementary general music, students have been focusing on the elements of music, including timbre, melody, and form. Movement is an important part of every music lesson as well! This is an example of the quality drawings made by the students. This drawing was a collaborative work by Sierra Garrett, Chasity Spicer, Cheyenne Riley, and Kaci Moss Did You Know? According to Americans for the Arts: “Arts improve academic performance. Students with an education rich in the arts have higher GPAs and standardized test scores, and lower drop-out rates— benefits reaped by students regardless of socioeconomic status. Students with 4 years of arts or music in high school average 100 points better on their SAT scores than students with just one-half year of arts or music.” What’s Upcoming October 23rd @ 6pm- Choir Concert "There's No Place Like Home"- A Celebration of the 75th Anniversary of the Wizard of Oz and the Meaning of Home Keep up to date by checking Carlisle County's website at carlisle.kyschools.us.
