(NIBIB): Update from the Director
Philip F. Judy will describe the legislative history of the creation the National
Institute of Biomedical Imaging and Bioengineering (NIBIB) and the AAPM
activities that supported its creation. On December 29, 2000, President William
J. Clinton signed H.R. 1795, The NIBIB Establishment Act into law. On April 20,
2001, Secretary of Health and Human Services Tommy G. Thompson signed the
documents officially establishing NIBIB as an Institute in NIH.
Donna J. Dean will discuss the present status and plans for NIBIB. On April 20,
2001, Dr. Dean was appointed Acting Director of NIBIB. Dr. Dean received an
A.B. degree in chemistry from Berea College in Kentucky and a Ph.D. in
biochemistry from Duke University. She has served in numerous positions at
NIH, before assuming her present position as Senior Advisor to the Acting
Director of the National Institutes of Health.
Paul L. Carson will describe AAPM activities and plans that were caused by the
creation NIBIB
