Yourfirstgradedspeechassignmentistoprepareanddeliveraspeechto
entertain.Thegeneralpurposeofthisspeechistoelicitacertainfeelingor
emotionalresponsefromyouraudience.Theemotionorfeelingcanbeoneoffun,
escape,diversion,etc.—entertainment.Oneshouldnotethatnospeechhasonlyone
purpose.Mosthaveacombination,butwithonepurposeusuallydominant.Your
dominantpurposewillbetoentertain.Tothatend,therootorcruxofyourspeech
willbebasedonpreparinganddeliveringaspeechcompletingthefollowing

bibliographyisrequiredinthatthespeechisbasedonyourpersonal
experience.
3. Anextemporaneous(conversationalstyle)modeofdeliveryisrequired.
Youarerequiredtorehearse(videorecord)yourspeech(2times)atour
CommunicationStudiesCenterpriortoyourscheduledspeakingday.
Nostudentwillbeallowedtopresenthis/herspeechtotheclasswithout
firsthavingcompletedthisrequirement.Therehearsalmustbedoneusing
notecards.Youarerequiredtosubmittwo(2)videoself‐evaluationforms
onthedayyou’rescheduledtospeak.Theformsshouldevaluateyourtwo
(2)practices.Evaluationsmaybetypedorhandwritten.
4. Notecardsarerequiredforallspeeches.Theycanbe3x5or5x7.Nomore
thanthree(3)notecardswillbeallowedforthisspeech.
5. Notbeingpreparedtospeakonthedayyou’rescheduledwillresultinyour
deliverygradeandyouroutlinegradebeingloweredonewholegrade.
Additionally,youwillbescheduledtobefirstonthenextroundofspeeches.
