FOODS Integrate knowledge, skills, practices, required for food science and careers in food science. 8th: • Students will explore careers in food science. • Determine the roles and functions of individuals engaged in food production and service careers. • Examine the impact of food production on various populations. 6th-8th: • Discuss pathogens found in food and how they can cause illness. • Practice good personal hygiene procedures to ensure safe food handling methods. • Demonstrate steps for avoiding contamination and cross-contamination of foods, including frequent and thorough hand-washing. • Select, use and clean kitchen equipment appropriately. 6th-8th: • Demonstrate correct understanding of reading a recipe. • Demonstrate an understanding of correct measuring techniques. • Demonstrate knowledge of effect of an ingredient within a recipe.
