Theme is an element of a story that presents a universal idea that relates to people of all cultures.
Authors present themes through the various events within a story that the characters’ experience
as they work toward a solution to their central conflicts. Through themes, a writer seeks to give
his or her readers insight on specific ideas or to present his or her views on a specific subject.
Common themes found in literature include poverty, teenage conflict, family relationships,
personal loss, abandonment, loyalty, identity, injustice, fear, forgiveness, and hope.
