ECE 3200
Project 1
S13
The purpose of the project is to gain an understanding of filtering. There are several
common analog filters. We have looked at the Butterworth and the Bessel filter. For this
project we are going to design a 6th order 1dB ripple Chebyshev type-I low-pass filter
with unity gain at a corner frequency of 3 kHz.
The Chebyshev type-I filter has a very step cutoff. The tradeoff for this steepness is
ripple in the pass band. The dB value in the spec refers to the maximum dB ripple in the
pass band. We are going to design the filter using Sallen-Key topology. The table values
[1] for a 6th Order 1dB ripple Chebyshev type-I low-pass filter is:
f01
0.995

8.004

Deliverables
The hand analysis of the resistors and capacitors needed to meet the filter
described above.
The spice analysis of your circuit and bode plot. Show the peak ripple in the pass
band is approximately 1dB with the cursors.
Use Matlab to show the bode plot and the pole-zero map. Include the figures
and show the peak ripple in the pass band is 1dB.
Include a cover page with the project number, class, name, and date.
