Lesson 6 Slope and rate of change.notebook February 02, 2016 Lesson 6 (PH Text 5.1): Slope and Rate of Change Objective: to find the rate of change/slope of a line from its table or graph, or from the coordinates of two points of the line Ordered pairs can be numbered: (x2, y2) and (x1, y1) This just identifies them as different points. Slope of a line is the ratio of the change in y to the change in x between any two points on the line. Slope – the measure of the steepness of a line – the ratio of the vertical change to the horizontal change Slope and rate of change are the same thing. When you calculate rate of change you are calculating slope. Constant rate of change means them when each consecutive rate of change is calculated you get the same value. Is the rate of change in elevation constant? What does the rate of change represent?
