Applications of Solving Equations
Objective: I will be able to solve consecutive integers word problems.
Vocabulary:
Consecutive integers­ are integers that differ by one. Examples: 3, 4, 5 or ­3, ­2, ­1
Even integers­ are exactly divisible by 2, *beginning with an even integer and counting by twos gives consecutive even integers. Examples 2, 4, 6….
Odd integers­ are not exactly divisible by 2, “beginning with an odd integer and counting by twos gives consecutive odd integers. Examples, ­3, ­1, 1
Examples:
1) Find three consecutive integers whose sum is 75.
2) The sum of four consecutive even integers is ­148. Find the integers.
3) Find five consecutive odd integers if the sum of the first and the fifth is 1 less than 3 times the fourth.
