Solving Inequalities by Adding or Subtracting
Objective: To solve inequalities by adding or subtracting
You can solve inequalities using properties similiar to those
you used solving equations.
To solve an inequality, you want to get the variable alone on one side of
the inequality. To do this, you must use inverse operations.
Addition Property of Inequality: if you add the same value to each side
of the inequality, the two sides remain equal.
If a > b then a + c > b + c
If a < b then a + c < b + c
Subtraction Property of Inequality: if you subtract the same value to
each side of the inequality, the two sides remain equal.
If a > b then a - c > b - c
If a < b then a - c < b - c
