2 FOUNDATIONS OF TECHNOLOGY Course #1260 This course is designed to serve as the introductory course in the Technology and Engineering program and will serve as a prerequisite for all other Technology and Engineering classes. Students in this course will study manufacturing, construction, visual communications and energy & power technologies and identify their role in maintaining competitive economic growth. This course will focus on the three dimensions of technological literacy: knowledge, ways of thinking & acting, and capabilities. The ultimate goal is for students to develop the characteristics of a technologically literate citizen. Students will develop an understanding of engineering design, the formal process that transforms ideas into products or systems of the man-made world. The course will conclude with the synthesizing of major ideas through an understanding of the core concepts of technology with an emphasis on systems-thinking and related principles.
