Ed Garza Wal-Mart Stores, Inc. West Texas Market Manager El Paso 2007 Ed Garza is the Market Manager for Wal-Mart Stores in El Paso, Texas. He has held this position for the past five years. Ed became a Market Manager after being with the Company for 21 years of hard work and dedication. In the early 1980’s with Wal-Mart on the rise, Ed began hearing about a businessman by the name of Sam Walton. Ed found himself intrigued by what he had learned about Sam Walton and soon became fascinated by retail. It wasn’t long before Ed made his way into the Company in 1983 as a receiving manager, while attending Texas A&I University in Kingsville, TX. He once said “Wal-Mart has been nearly half of my Life’s experience in retailing, devoting my time and efforts to Learning and Teaching from the People who make the difference.” Over the years in the early stages of his career Ed went on to hold a variety of positions including; pricer, unloader, sales clerk, Department manager, Assistant Manager and Co-Manager. He held all of these positions, working his way up from the bottom to the top before becoming a Store Manager in 1992 in Brownsville, Texas (his home town). After four years in 1996, he was named Store Manager of the Laredo, Texas store. One thing Ed is most proud of, is the Honorable award his Laredo Store was presented with in 2001. The Store was named the Store of the Year and recognized in the Fortune 500 magazine along with the special issue of Time Magazine in the April 2001 issue. The Store was recognized for it’s success in Profitability to the Company, Community involvement and Associate Relations. In March 2002, Ed was promoted to District Manager, and oversaw 8 Stores along the Southern Border of Texas. In 2006 he was offered yet another opportunity to run his second District to become the now called “ Market Manager” for the Stores in El Paso, Texas. His current Market now includes: Six Supercenters and and three Wal-Mart Neighborhood Markets. In the near future, three new stores will be added to his Market. Ed currently serves on two boards in the Local community; The Children’s Miracle Network and The Greater El Paso Chamber of Commerce. Ed is married to his wife of 22 years, Jan. Ed and Jan have three children; Karissa- 21, Kassie- 19 and one son Edward Andrew- 15.
