The centers help you become a better speaker, writer, or reader. Both centers provide individualized instruction to undergraduate and graduate students. The Writing Center helps students improve their writing, including attitudes and self-confidence about writing. The Center also assists students with reading. 2007 Writing Center staff The Speaking Center helps students improve their public speaking skills, including analyzing audience and occasion as well as coping with speech anxiety. How do the centers help? Who are the instructors? We can assist with: Each center is directed by a Rhetoric professor, and center teachers are graduate instructors and full-time Rhetoric faculty members who have specialized training in writing, speaking, or reading. Students who enroll in the Writing Center commit to meeting twice a week with the same tutor to make lasting, long-term improvements in writing. 30-minute appointments. Sign-up for help with specific writing problems and develop strategies. E-mail tutoring. Submit work through the website for digital feedback on your drafts. Speaking Center Services: One-to-one and small group instruction: half-hour-long appointments for students and instructors who want to improve their speaking performance in classes, in teaching, or other areas of university life. Any UI student, graduate or undergraduate, or instructor from any college in the university can enroll in either of the centers. If any of your instructors suggests that you come to one of the centers, please stop by; however, you do not need an instructor’s recommendation to use our services. If you have any anxiety, dissatisfaction, or confusion about writing, speaking, or reading, or just want to improve your skills, please come in to see us. What else?
