The score of this project will be combined with the score you earn on the unit test. You MUST pick at least one option to present your knowledge of the material. If you feel you need to complete more than one option to make sure you are meeting all requirements of the project you are permitted but please let us know prior to doing this. You are permitted to work independently, with a partner, or in groups. Please know that if you chose to work with others you will all receive the same grade. Also, if you choose to work with a partner or in a group, you are permitted to work with students from any of Mr. O’Rourke and Mrs. Stonis’ first, fourth, fifth or seventh period classes. We must be informed of whom you are working with and which period they are in. If you include other students who are not in those classes they are permitted be part of the project but they will not receive a grade since they are not in those classes nor have the same teachers. You will be given TWO work days in class (November 16 and 19) to work on your project. You MUST bring parts or your entire project to work on it during those two classes. If you would like other time to work, have questions or would just like to touch base with us about progress on the project; we will be happy to help, but you MUST make an appointment with us for before or after school. Each project MUST include: - - - - Vocabulary from the introductory unit Density o Formula o Density of water o Any other information you learned about density Lab safety o Rules o Expectation in the lab o Safety equipment o An example of unsafe behavior Atoms o Subatomic particles – protons, electrons, neutrons Where they are found in the atoms o Charges and masses o Connection to the periodic table Physical and chemical properties/ changes o Examples of each (at least 3) and what they are Option 1- poster: The poster must be a regular poster size (36x24). The poster must include a title, graphics and written information. The written information should help support your pictures and describe why you selected them to represent the idea/concept. The written information does not have to be on the front of poster. It may be on the back or on a separate attached sheet. For example: you will number the picture and then have the explanation under the same number on the back. The back should include; your name/names of the group members and your period/periods. Option 2- model: You determine how you would like to represent the idea/concept in a form of model. This model could be a diorama, made of clay, mobiles or any other type of model you can think of but must be able to be transported to school. You must have your name/names of the group members as well as your period/periods on the model. Also, an explanation of your model that includes how it connects to the project and why you choose it is required on a separate sheet. Option 3- cover song: Take a school appropriate song and create your own cover of the song. You must submit the words, the actual song and your cover to us. The song MUST be able to be handed over to the teachers in some capacity, for grading. You can submit an mp3 file on an usb drive or a CD, you can upload your song to youtube and provide us the link or submit it in any other way of playing the cover song. Playing the song on your phone or any other personal mobile device will not be acceptable. Option 4- music video: Take a school appropriate song and create your own music video of the song. You must submit the words, the actual song and your music video to us. The music video can be uploaded to youtube and you provide us the link, put any playable video file (wav, avi, mp4 etc) on an usb drive, CD, DVD or any other way of playing the music video. This MUST be able to be handed over to the teachers in some capacity, for grading. Playing the video on your phone or any other personal mobile device will not be acceptable. Option 5- Essay: You need to compose an essay explaining each idea/concept. This essay must have transitions, paragraphs and organized ideas. Option 6- Making a game: You will take the ideas/concepts and make a game. This could be a board game, card game or any other type of appropriate game. You must include rules, how to play the game and the material to play the game. All parts must be able to be transported to school and handed over to the teachers for grading. Option 7- Other option: This option is for students who have another idea for representing their knowledge of the material. This must include the ideas/concepts. Also, if you have an idea you MUST approve it through the teachers prior to completing the project.
