Panel on the
Syrian Refugee Crisis
This panel will explore the causes and consequences of the Syrian refugee crisis and will put
this crisis, and U.S. reactions to it, in a broader historical context. Panelists will offer insights
into the sources of instability in Syria and elsewhere in the Middle East; the role of international
law in defining refugees; the history of refugee resettlement in the U.S.; the contemporary
politics of refugee resettlement; and the experiences of those seeking refuge from civil conflict.
