For the first day of class, students are required to read and should be prepared to discuss 1) Pages 21-­‐31 of the casebook, and 2) Excerpt from Understanding Criminal Law by Joshua Dressler, which can be obtained on the TWEN page for this course. (Note that the excerpt, though not part of the casebook, is required, not optional.) Students should be prepared to take notes on paper. Laptop use is not permitted in class. A syllabus will be distributed on the first day of class, but here are the assignments for the second week of class for those who want to read in advance. Page numbers refer to the casebook.
