Christopher Theofanidis’ (BM ‘90, studio of David
Ashley White) original composition for soloists, chorus, and orchestra, Creation Oratorio, will have its world premiere at the Atlanta Symphony Hall in Atlanta,
Georgia on April 23 and 25, 2015. The work is part of a collaboration between the Atlanta Symphony Orchestra,
Emory University, and the Georgia Humanities Council.

Club on February 3. The HTMC was founded in 1911 by
Ima Hogg. Robert Nelson (MSM Professor Emeritus) was program co-chair with performers including
Sharon Ley Lietzow, piano (MM ‘02. studio of Abbey
Simon and former President of the Moores Society) and former MSM students soprano Anita Bonanno and violinist Johnny Chang.

Matthew Mason (BM’ 98, studio of Nancy Weems) was commissioned, by the San Antonio International
Piano Competition to write a 4-6 minute piano work for the 5 finalists of the competition to perform. The world premiere will be performed at the competition on June
5-12, 2016. As a special prize for “Best Performance of the Commissioned Work”, Mason will judge the winner of that category. Previous commissioned composers have included Lowell Liebermann, Joan Tower, and
Paul Moravec. The San Antonio International Piano
Competition, held every four years, is dedicated to providing an enriching musical experience for audiences while offering a challenging, yet inspiring, opportunity for promising young artists.
