Executive Council Minutes January 20, 2010 Present: Alan Scheibmeir, Giles Brown, Jeanie Hardin, Stanley Henderson, and Gary Paikowski. Absent: Roy Renfro Recorder: Shelle Cassell Agenda Items WNJ Community Breakfast Dr. Scheibmeir invited members to attend the annual community breakfast that will be held Thursday, Feb. 11, 7:00 a.m.-8:30 a.m. The college will sponsor a table. Action/Motion: Dr. Scheibmeir encouraged Stanley Henderson to bring a faculty guest with him (two seats will be reserved for professors) and Jeanie Hardin to invite a guest. Change in Family Medical Leave Policy Giles Brown initiated a discussion on procedures related to the Family Medical Leave Act. Action/Motion: The Council unanimously approved the motion by Giles Brown, second by Jeanie Hardin, to clarify FMLA policies, to review the college’s Sick Leave Pool procedures and limits, and to propose changes as necessary. Job Descriptions and Employee Evaluations Giles Brown presented follow up information as requested at an earlier council meeting. He proposed a list of mandatory Key Result Areas (KRA) that address availability, ability to work, and interpersonal skills to be included in every employee job description. The next step in implementing the new Performance Management System will be to collect KRAs for all positions and begin following the evaluation schedule. To complete the system, an evaluation form will need to be developed. Jeanie Hardin will provide a sample evaluation form. Action/Motion: Jeanie Hardin made the motion that in preparing the Performance Management System for all employees, that the edited mandatory KRAs be included. The motion was seconded by Giles Brown and passed unanimously. Freedom of Speech Council members discussed the guidelines for freedom of speech activities on campus. Current guidelines (based on policy and state and federal laws) indicate that there are 1 of 2 procedures for employees, students, and others directly connected with the college, but not for citizens at large. Action/Motion: No action taken. Managing Enrollment Growth Jeanie Hardin shared an emerging issue on the current enrollment growth and its effect on teaching load compliance. Council members discussed holding an in-depth discussion or retreat to focus on managing enrollment growth while ensuring quality and cost-benefit analysis. Action/Motion: Jeanie Hardin will inform members when a meeting has been scheduled or a proposal is ready for consideration. 2 of 2
