1 Master Course Outline TRANS 050 Transitions English I Course Description: This is an integrated adult basic education (ABE) English course for students placing into ABE 1-3. The course is based on the Washington State Learning Standards and is designed to develop reading and writing skills with a goal to improve Basic Education for Adults. Upon completion of TRANS 050 level 3 or with instructor permission, students may transition to TRANS 055. This course does not meet any degree requirements. Credits: Variable credits that do not meet any degree requirements Prerequisites: Appropriate CASAS ABE assessment or instructor permission Recommended Preparation: none Co-requisites: none Learning Outcomes: Based on Washington State Learning Standards Reading Standard: Read with understanding Determine the reading purpose. Select reading strategies appropriate to the purpose. Monitor comprehension and adjust reading strategies. Analyze the information and reflect on its underlying meaning. Integrate it with prior knowledge to address reading purpose. Writing Standard: To convey ideas in writing Determine the purpose for communicating. Organize and present information to serve the purpose. Pay attention to conventions of English language use, including grammar, spelling, and sentence structure, to minimize barriers to reader’s comprehension.
