BOARD OF SCHOOL TRUSTEES SCHOOL DISTRICT NO. 67 (OKANAGAN SKAHA) REGULAR SCHOOL BOARD MEETING MONDAY, APRIL 10, 2006, AT 7:30 P.M. SCHOOL BOARD OFFICE AGENDA 1.0 CALL TO ORDER 2.0 ADOPTION OF AGENDA 3.0 PRESENTATIONS BY SCHOOLS AND/OR STUDENTS 3.1 Carnival of the Animals Music Teacher Joanne Forsyth and Barb Godsmark’s primary class will perform two or three excerpts from “Carnival of the Animals” by SaintSaens as a preview for the primary presentation at Cleland Theatre on May 3. 3.2 Physics Olympics At the University of British Columbia’s Physic Olympics competition held March 5, 2006, Penticton Secondary School’s team finished in first place overall. This is the seventh time Penticton has finished first. The nearest other school to matching this track record has three wins. Over 66 teams of the province’s best and brightest, from both public and private schools, competed in the annual competition. Team members and their teachers Bruce Gowe and Wayne Wood will highlight their attendance at the competition. 3.3 Ecuador Field Trip Twenty-one Pen High students, one Summerland Secondary student, three teachers, and one administrator travelled to Ecuador over spring break to complete a cultural and humanitarian trip. Students travelled to two remote villages (Peurto Rico and Las Tunas) in Ecuador where they stayed with local families, worked constructing a school, and volunteered at a number of other jobs in the community. “Working Together for Student Success” www.sd67.bc.ca School District No. 67 (Okanagan Skaha) Page 2 Agenda for Regular School Board Meeting – April 10, 2006 Prior to leaving, students fundraised $2,000 and were able to see all of this money in action. One hundred per cent of their money went to purchasing cement, bricks, desks, and supplies needed to build a school. When finished, our students had laid the foundation for the school (mixed and poured cement, dug foundation holes, cut rebar, and laboured extensively helping the local workers) as well as painting a classroom, and donating five SD67 computers. The success of this trip, however, is not in the work they were able to do in the community, but in the tremendous world view our students gained, how they were able to work together under tremendously adverse conditions to achieve something remarkable….laying a foundation for their own lives. 4.0 RECEIVING OF DELEGATIONS AND GUESTS 5.0 APPROVAL OF PREVIOUS MINUTES • Regular meeting held on March 6, 2006 6.0 REPORT FROM CLOSED MEETING The secretary-treasurer to report on the closed meetings held on March 6 and 28, 2006 7.0 CORRESPONDENCE 7.1 Letter from CUPE 523 Okanagan Skaha A letter from CUPE 523 Okanagan Skaha requesting that the Board of School Trustees join with CUPE to create a local roundtable in association with other partner groups.
