Do we still have a service on this campus known as
a State College Directory? If sc, will we have the publication out in time to address valentines? Call out Fowler,
we need an investigation!
In the past lists were posted with names, addresses,
and phone numbers in order that students might make
the necessary corrections. These lists were up for about
three weeks. So far, no lists!
Every year, same problem—no cover design. This holds
up publication another month. So far no problem!

STATE C O L L E G E NEWS FRIDAY, OCTOBER
For personal reasons, I would like
to submit my resignation as CoEditor-in-Chicf of the State College

from a basic disagreement with the

I've enjoyed working with the

this decision.

any smile, but one which you can
beam a t any stranger you meet a t
school, hoping he (or she) is one of
the few on campus who "matters".
With a little luck, you just might
manage to flash those beautiful
"thirty-twos" at someone who will
come in handy later on.
2. Choose a neurosis. If you cannot find a suitable one. any sort of
emotional conflict will do. Make this
acquired problem evident isubtly,
of course). People will then think
you are very sensitive to life, and
therefore extremely intelligent.
3. Learn to learn to play bridge.
It doesn't matter if you already
know how (as if anyone can ever
really know howi. You must find
as many people as possible to teach
you. and never bid so t h a t your
instructor, when he is your p a r t ner, can understand you.
4. Never, never claim to understand anyone. Although it is true
that people crave understanding, it
is truer yet that no one likes to
admit t h a t he is simple enough to
be understood.
i> Be able to listen to all the advice with which you will be flooded,
but also be able not to take any
of if
gracefully.
For those of you who dare to be
extremists, we offer these additional
lips.
i. Either praise everyone and
everything, or knock everyone and
everything.
If you're an optimist,
people will invariably come to you
lor positive reassurance when they
think they're wrong.
If you're a
skeptic and a pessimist people wull
consider you a deep thinker, one
who is not. led by blind faith,
2. Either know everyone's name,
oi' no one's. If you know them all,
you will be considered very friendly
end personable. On the other hand,
il you know no one's name, people
will think you must be very important
so busy and active that you
haven't the time to remember unimportant details like names. You
will be respected for your importance.
()! course these have only been
suggestions, and there is a .slight
possibility that they may not work,
although they have thus far proven
lo be very reliable. If all else fails,
however, we oiler one final helpful
hint

Today is the one-hundredth anniversnry of tho sensational raid
of John Brown on Harper's Ferry,
Virginia.
There, dear people, was
a nutn who 1 ought for what, he believed: a man who. with an army
of but 22 men dared to take drastic
eel ion to forward a cause which he
firmly believed to be both right
and important.
Yet. look at the ultimate results!
Are we to condemn him for inciting
one ol the bloodiest battles ever
fought on our nation's soil, or are
we to call him "hero" for al least
attempting to remedy a situation
which had plagued our country for
centuries before?
Our attitudes towards John Brown
and his claim to fame depend a
great deal upon the value we set
on the importance and manners of
becoming well-known or famous.
Most of us have, whether we admit it or not. u desire within ourseUes to be known — those of us
who cannot acquire fame may often
content ourselves with infamy.
Pur those of you. especially the
freshmen and transfers, who will
admit that you are seeking your
'place in the sun", your opportunity
to gain fame and friends, we offer
these carefully compiled and surelire suggestions.

Senate:
'Senate-Go-Round' Includes Discussion
Of SUB Activities, Camp Board Committee
By BOB IIL'NEKE
Report, Talk, T a b l e
At this weeks meeting, Senate
discussed m a n y , many, m a n y topics,
reversed its a t t i t u d e on one of them,
and came to some conclusions on a
few.
Accomplishments
T h e first t h i n g done by Senate
was to swear in the newly elected
senators. As usual, not all of the
senators were present at this session.
A request from S t u d e n t Union
Board was t h e n announced, asking
for $100 to be used to hire a band
for a dance on October 24. Senate
discussed the advantages of holding
dances on weekends when nothing
else is scheduled.
Members of SUB pointed out t h a t
a total of almost 600 people attended
the last two such dances, and t h a t
since they were so successful, they
should be continued.
It was pointed out t h a t SUB asked
for a floating fund to provide for
such dances a couple of weeks ago
and that, at t h a t time, Senate refused to allocate funds. If Senate
decided to give SUB this money it
would be reversing its former decision.
After more discussion t h e motion
was put to a vote and passed. This,
of course, m e a n t t h a t S e n a t e had
contradicted a former decision.
C a m p Board
A committee was set up to meet
with C a m p Board to discuss future
legislation concerning State's camp
a t Dippikill.
T h e first topic reported on was the
request by the Business D e p a r t m e n t
t h a t S t u d e n t Association buy its own
duplicating m a c h i n e . A decision was
postponed until the m a t t e r could be
further investigated.

T h e S e c r e t a r y - T r e a s u r e r is Paul
F l a t h m a n , and Athletic Director is
Gary Penfield; both are freshmen.
Sayles Events
Sunday, October 25, t h e men of
Sayles Hall will hold an open house
from 3 to 5 p.m. Everyone is cordially invited.

A report was t h e n given concerning the proposed p a y m e n t by S t u d e n t Association of all or p a r t of
the costs of sending representatives
to the Eastern States Science Conference. After quite a bit of discussion it was pointed out t h a t S e n a t e
should not commit itself until more
information is available.
Another report was given concerning the proposal t h a t S t a t e join the
National S t u d e n t Association. T h e
merits of this organization were
pointed out and S e n a t e decided to
contact other colleges which belong
to this organization and to postpone
further action to a later date.

It was then announced t h a t Monica Traskus, Editor-in-Chief of the

Six tugs will take place, three for the women's teams and three for the men's
