I'he fust complete sound film of a grand opera will he shown for suiuiuer session student- in the auditorium of I'age Hall, tonight at 8:30 o'clock. Ihe opera is Leoncavallo'- " l'agliacci " made by Audio-Cinema, Inc., of New York, in association with f o r t u n e Hallo, long a pioneer ui opera in America, with Western I'.leclric s \ s t , m of sound recording. Ihe choice of •' I'aghacci" for the first opera on the sound screen is a wise one, as Leoncavallo's - h u r l opera lends itself particularly to screen requirements. 11 oilers variety, the costumes are cITcctive and the scenes are pictorial: the entrance of N'edda and the - t r o l l i n g players, in the donkey cart being especially adaptable lor screen purposes. Then again, tin work enjoys a popularity that adds to its possibilities as a commercial vehicle. Novelty has been introduced into the picturization of this opera by including a ballet in the first act and again at the opening of the second, adding to the action and picture as well. Mr. Hallo selected the cast and ensemble w i t h the same tare that is exercised by the major picture companies, w i t h due consideration of the vocal and picture requirements. Ihe musical director.
