E. Sm ith, the Kennedy people are
stm holding strong in New Yoak,
although losing *ome ground w ith
the entry of the Vice President
and the persistent boring In on
all levels by Sen. Eugene Mc
Carthy. Basically, however, Ken
nedy oaai be »ald to control the
vast m ajority of delegates here as
of tihis w riting aaid the M cCarthy
troops, although coming up strong,
are expected to throw their sup
port to Kennedy If the Minnesota
Senator loges his bid for the spot.
Despite th e dilemma this triple
political choice m ight m ake for
some politicoes It Is n o t really a
problem for th e h a rd core K en
nedy disciples, even If H um phrey
should take th e nom ination and
th e election. W h a t la n o t gen
erally known a t this point la th a t
H um phrey and K ennedy have such
friendship an d respect for each
other th a t even so unexpected a
thou ght as a H um phrey-K ennedy
ticket Is n ot as outrageous as it
sounds. Should this happen, any
body who stays for Kennedy right
down to the wire would be “ pro
tected” and thds Is paa'ticulaa'ly
ti'ue for New York Dem ocrats.
L et’s assume, though, th a t K en
nedy doesn’t get the nod for either
spot. H um phrey or any other
D emocrat desiring W hite House
residence would seek th e support
of the New York S enator before
th a t of any other top Democrat.
The Senator’s effectiveness as
a campaigner, his capacity for a t
tracting people, his strong personal
organization, all these qualities he
holds to a higher degree th a n any
other single cam paigner in either
th e Democratic or Republican
ranks.
Kennedy’s Importance to the
Democrats is so significant th a t
th e pa-os believe th a t if President
Johnson were drafted and ra n
again he, too, would stop first a t
the Kennedy door to seek sup
port.
Add to all this th e fac t th a t
K ennedy Is a m an th a t has a deep
concern for his friends and th a t
he will ftlll be th e Democratic
chieftan of New York S tate, no

Dear Emigrant,
I never thought about buying life insurance from a bank, but if buying
direct can save me plenty and still provide dividends, I'm all for it. So send
me the forms, I'll fill them out and return them. I understand that, upon quali
fication, my life insurance becomes effective and no one will call on me.
