VOL UME 6 ISSUE 3 MARCH 27, 20 15 We Keep the College Going EPCC Physical Plant Special Edition in Tribute to Dr. Ernst E. Roberts II The Physical Plant was going to publish a short issue of our monthly newsletter due to the Spring Break time we were off and the reduced activity during this period. As a result of Dr. Robert’s passing, we are publishing this two page edition to concentrate on Dr. Roberts and the affect his work, friendship, and passing has had on us. Join us in remembering Dr. Roberts and what he meant to all of us. PAGE 2 EPCC PHYSICAL PLANT MARCH 27, 2015 EPCC Without Dr. Ernst E. Roberts II As all of you already know, we lost Dr. Ernst E. Roberts II on the night of Thursday, March 5th after an extended period of illness and treatment. The EPCC employees who have worked at the College since the Logan Heights Campus was in use have known Dr. Roberts as a teacher, a departmental Director, and in other roles in the President’s Office, including Interim President. For the rest of us, it seemed as if Dr. Roberts had always been here, His tenure at EPCC covered over 40 years. Even if you seldom had the chance to interact with Dr. Roberts, you could not help but be aware of his influence and other work at the College. This included his successful participation in the efforts to secure the Lease Agreement with the US Army for the construction of our next campus on Fort Bliss. He also served as the Chair of the Board for KCOS Public Television, which broadcasts from its location in the “A” building of the EPCC Administrative Service Center. If you were lucky enough to know Dr. Roberts, you could see the love he had for his wife, children, and grandchildren. You could also recognize his smile was sincere and his concern was genuine. It is difficult to express the feelings that arose at the news of Dr. Roberts’ passing, but it helped to clearly see that the headline for this article (EPCC Without Dr. Ernst E. Roberts II) is actually wrong. EPCC will never be without Dr. Roberts, since we are surrounded by his legacy, which is visible in all the work he did for the College for more than 40 years. We liked and loved Dr. Roberts, and he made us feel that he was not just another administrator, but that we had a friend in high places at the College. We want the Roberts family to know that we share in their feeling of loss, and that Dr. Roberts will live on at this institution, which he helped build, with his EPCC extended family, as he lives on in his immediate family.
