JOB SUMMARY: Responsible for on-site diagnostic, troubleshooting and recovery of the college-wide network. Maintain accurate network documentation for planning of modifications and additions to the network. Installs and maintains college-wide network infrastructure (local area networks (LAN) and wide area network (WAN).

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

1. Perform cable plant installations including fiber/copper terminations, cable management and Main/Intermediate distribution facility preventive maintenance. Perform installations and maintenance of

Ethernet routers and network switches. Work independently and/or within a team during normal and after hours to minimize campus network downtime.

2. Use network diagnostic and cable testing equipment such as flukes cable testers and sniffers to perform on-site troubleshooting procedure,

Perform on-site inspection of network infrastructure and handle directed basic configuration of routers and switches..

3. Collect and verify information relating to network devices and infrastructure; including model description, serial number, tag number, port number, cable media, etc. Report all findings and updates network documentation as required. Maintain network hardware inventory. Use software or other means to keep up-to-date maps of entire college network for planning and expansion of any part of the network.

4. Work with vendors, part-time personnel, interns, user departments, I.T. work units, etc. regarding network installation. Certify cabling and installations performed by vendors, computer lab personnel and Cisco

Academy students.

ESSENTIAL QUALIFICATIONS:

EDUCATION: Associate’s degree

EXPERIENCE: Five (5) years experience.

SPECIAL SKILLS AND ABILITIES:

1. Skills/Abilities : Ability to differentiate between colors and cables. Ability to ascend and descend from ladders, stair and the like. Ability to perform job duties from high places. Ability to organize and prioritize work and to handle multitasking.

2. Equipment Personal computer, Fluke cable tester, fiber installation tool kit,

Fluke Lan Meter, sniffer and other necessary tools.

Duties require little physical effort in work with light (up to 10lbs), easy to handle materials. Duties performed causes light fatigue of eyes, fingers, or other faculties due to long periods of standing, sitting, and/or repetitive motion.
