POSITION DESCRIPTION TITLE: FLSA STATUS: International Student Admissions Assistant Non-Exempt Classified C CATEGORY: GRADE: JOB SUMMARY: Provide support services related to international student admissions into El Paso Community College. ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: YEARLY PERCENT OF TIME 80% 1. Interview international applicants, evaluate and code information, enter system data and provide students with information on any remaining admissions requirements. Determine international students’ eligibility to attend post secondary educational institutions based upon complex Bureau of Citizenship and Immigration Services (BCIS) visa laws. Receive and review submitted applications and documents for completeness, authenticity, content and validity using broad decision making based up complex rules designed to ensure compliance with Southern Association of Colleges (SACS), Texas Higher Education Coordinating Board (THECB), federal, state, colleges and department policies. Direct students toward remaining steps in the registration process and other needed student services. Schedule college placement testing for international students. Code students’ out-of-state residency status fro tuition purposes based upon narrowly defined THECB rules. 2. Perform audit and admissions records review of international student files to ensure compliance with state, federal, college and department requirements. Research and correct records as necessary to meet institutional, state and federal requirements. Maintain multiple databases requiring running reports/routines to extract data from main frame. 10% 3. Provide general college information to assist international students, staff, other college departments and outside education agencies. Information services include answering admissions and registration questions, problem solving, provide college contact person information and refer to appropriate office. 5% 4. Determine Texas Success Initiative (TSI) status for all incoming international students using broad latitude of decision making based upon complex THECB rules and Texas state laws. Respond to TSI related questions from international students and staff. 5% REPORTING RELATIONSHIP: Manager, International Students Effective: 9/1/03 Page 1 of 2 ESSENTIAL QUALIFICATIONS: EDUCATION: One year of college EXPERIENCE: Three (3) years. SPECIAL SKILLS AND ABILITIES: 1. Skills/Abilities: Ability to edit, use and maintain database management programs; ability to provide quality control in meeting reporting requirements; excellent interpersonal and communication skills. 2. Equipment Used: Personal Computer, fax, telephone, copier, and other equipment associated with an office environment. 3. Software Used: A variety of word-processing, spreadsheet, database, e-mail, and presentation software. PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS: Duties require little physical effort in work with light (up to 10lbs), easy to handle materials. Duties performed causes light fatigue of eyes, fingers, or other faculties due to long periods of standing, sitting, and/or repetitive motion. INTERPERSONAL SKILLS: Courtesy, tact, and effectiveness in order to communicate with fellow workers, supervisors, and other members of the organization to request or transmit information, ask questions, get clarification, and exercise tact. WORKING CONDITIONS: Job is performed in general office or comparable working area with many and frequent distractions such as noise, interruptions, or congested work areas with exposure to some disagreeable elements.
