POSITION DESCRIPTION TITLE: FLSA STATUS: Coordinator, Work-Study Program Non-Exempt CATEGORY: GRADE: Classified F JOB SUMMARY: Responsible for the coordination, development, implementation and management of the Federal and Texas College Work-study program (CWSP) for the EPCC District. ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: 1. Coordinate all job placement and District’s CWSP daily operations, including communication of external placement for community services and non-profit organizations; determine work-study eligibility based on federal regulations; interview student regarding qualification/backgrounds; matching and referrals to prospective openings within the District. YEARLY PERCENT OF TIME 45% 2. Maintain and oversee the District’s CWSP applicant tracking processing including vacancies, transfers and separations. 20% 3. Authenticates INS I-9 forms for all new student workers; coordinate all employment documents, review all documents for completeness and accuracy including submission of Personnel Action Record to the Personnel Services department. 10% 4. Coordinate and conduct presentation to all student workers on condition of employment, responsibilities and expectations; provide guidance, counsel and/or recommendation to student worker and supervisor assigned in resolution of work related areas, questions and concerns. 10% 5. Provide personnel management direction and guidance for staff assigned to section, including orientation, performance appraisal and coaching. 10% 6. Provide employment verification to the Department of Texas Human Services and other agencies; compile and prepare State reports for the Texas Higher Education Coordinating Board; prepare annual contracts for the America Reads Challenge Program; review and maintain monthly payroll reports; serve as point of contact for payroll, accounting services and personnel departments. 5% REPORTING RELATIONSHIP: Assistant Director, Financial Aid Office Effective: 03/25/03 Page 1 of 2 SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES: Provides work direction to assigned staff. ESSENTIAL QUALIFICATIONS: EDUCATION: Associate’s degree. EXPERIENCE: Five (5) years experience. SPECIAL SKILLS AND ABILITIES: 1. Skills/Abilities: Proficient computer skills, effective verbal and written communication and good interpersonal skills; ability to work on multiple assignments simultaneously. 2. Equipment Used: Personal Computer, fax, telephone, copier, and other equipment associated with an office environment. 3. Software Used: A variety of word-processing, spreadsheet, database, e-mail, and presentation software. PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS: Duties require little physical effort in work with light (up to 10lbs), easy to handle materials. Duties performed causes light fatigue of eyes, fingers, or other faculties due to long periods of standing, sitting, and/or repetitive motion. INTERPERSONAL SKILLS: Alternative or combined skills in understanding, negotiating, selecting, developing, and motivating people are important to the highest degree due to constant interaction with other people, at any level within the organization or the community, position’s accountability for the development, motivation, assessment, and reward of employees, and to deal with irrational situations where the outcome is unpredictable. WORKING CONDITIONS: Job is performed in general office or comparable working area with occasional distractions such as noise, interruptions, or congested work areas with exposure to some disagreeable elements.
