POSITION DESCRIPTION TITLE: EXTENDED TITLE: FLSA STATUS: Financial Aid Coordinator FA Coordinator, Student Loans Non-exempt CATEGORY: Classified GRADE: F JOB SUMMARY: Responsible for assisting the Manager with administration, planning and coordination of a designated program, department or unit within the Financial Aid Department. ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: YEARLY PERCENT OF TIME 20% 1. Responsible for coordinating all activities related to the operation of the Federal Family Education Loan Program (FFELP) and alternative loans to include keeping up to date with changing regulations, interfacing with lending partners, overseeing default aversion activities and assisting in development of policies, procedures and forms. 2. Responsible for determining eligibility for and processing of student loan applications. 20% 3. Oversee receipt, disbursement and transmittal of returned loan funds. Responsible for reconciliation of the loan fund pass through account. 15% 4. Coordinate all entrance and exit loan counseling sessions to include arranging schedule, ensuring schedule is posted on financial aid web page, updating entrance presentations based on updated regulations and designing and implementing enhancements to the entrance and exit loan counseling procedure. 15% 5. Serve as a liaison with external agencies in processing of student loans. Communicate effectively and professionally with representatives from the lending community regarding loan process including the resolution of loan problems. Liaison for institution in regards to specialized loan software (i.e. AdvanTG). 10% 6. Assist in evaluation of aid eligibility and awarding of aid; advise students and families regarding all aspects of student financial aid programs and delivery system. 10% 7. Conduct Financial Aid workshops for current and prospective students on campus and in the community. 5% 8. Effective: 06/24/08 ESSENTIAL QUALIFICATIONS: EDUCATION: Associate’s Degree EXPERIENCE: Five (5) years financial aid experience SPECIAL SKILLS AND ABILITIES: 1. Skills/Abilities: Proficient computer skills, effective verbal and written communication and good interpersonal skills; ability to work on multiple assignments simultaneously. Ability to work independently, trouble shoot and problem solve; effective verbal and written communication skills; good interpersonal and organizational skills. 2. Equipment Used: Personal Computer, fax, telephone, copier, and other equipment associated with an office environment. 3. Software Used: A variety of word-processing, spreadsheet, database, e-mail, and presentation software. PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS: Duties require little physical effort in work with light (up to 10lbs), easy to handle materials. INTERPERSONAL SKILLS: Alternative or combined skills in understanding, advising, and/or influencing people are important in achieving job objectives, causing action, understanding others, or changing behavior; skills of persuasiveness or assertiveness, as well as sensitivity to the point of view of others.
