POSITION DESCRIPTION TITLE: FLSA STATUS: Director, Distance Education Exempt CATEGORY: GRADE: Administrative C JOB SUMMARY: Responsible for the administration of district-wide technological instructional support services to include the Distance Learning, Instructional Television, and Online instructional programs. ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: 1. Administer and direct district-wide instructional support services and activities for the Distance Learning, Instructional Television, and Online instructional programs. 2. Responsible for the strategic planning and operational management for the department. Research, plan, recommend, and implement departmental budget. Direct and indirect supervision of staff assigned. YEARLY PERCENT OF TIME 25% 25% 3. Direct and plan the development of the District’s Distance Education program. Adapt the curriculum for such delivery and oversees the training of instructors. Administer the evaluation of faculty by students as part of the District’s faculty evaluation system. 15% 4. Plan and ensure coordination of other distance learning related efforts such as prerecorded telecourses with the various academic departments, TV studio, Learning Resource Center, and local PBS station. 15% 5. Research, develop, and implement extended learning options to include curriculum adaptation, technological set-up, marketing of program, and recruitment. 15% 6. Skills/Abilities: Must have the skill and ability to plan, organize, lead, and control personnel and operations of a large department; effective communication and problem solving skills in a variety of circumstances. Knowledge and understanding of distance education (teleconferencing, instructional television, and online web-based instruction). 2. Equipment Used: Personal Computer and other equipment associated with a general office environment (copier, telephone, fax, etc.) 3. Software Used: A variety of word-processing, spreadsheet, database, e-mail, and presentation software.
