ELEMENTARY ASSOCIATE TEACHER Evergreen Community Charter School, Asheville NC Elementary Associate Teacher Part Time (29 hours/week), 10 month Start date: August 8, 2016 Reports to: Lead Teacher Salary: Based on NC State Salary Schedule Teacher Assistant Organization Located in Asheville, North Carolina, Evergreen Community Charter School is a tuition-free, public school serving approximately 450 students in grades K-8. We follow the EL Education model, a research-substantiated model for school reform with roots in the adventure and leadership organization, Outward Bound. Our program embraces differentiated instruction, curriculum integration, focused literacy and math, environmental education, challenging performance assessment, and character education. Position Description Work collaboratively with the lead teacher in a classroom of 22-24 students. Responsible for teaching small groups of students in math, writing, and/or reading. Assist with classroom management, supervise lunch and recess, drive on field trips, communicate with parents, and act as a substitute lead teacher in the event of the lead’s absence. Clerical duties include preparing of materials, collecting monies, and record keeping. Good rapport with children, strong organizational and communication skills, consistent behavior management, and a commitment to experiential education are required. Some Associates are licensed, beginning teachers who find that this year of on-the-job “apprenticeship” paves the way for a successful transition to lead teaching. Experience working with large groups of elementary aged children, preferably in a classroom setting. Experience or interest in environmental/outdoor education.
