Call to Order- Mary Jáuregui, President Meeting called to order at 10:05 a.m. Welcome made by Mary Jáuregui. Mary thanked everybody for taking the time to attend the meeting. II. Introduction of Newly Elected/Appointed Officers All Newly Elected/Appointed Officers were sworn in by Belinda Quiñones, former CSA President. III. Approval of July General Meeting Minutes Motion was made and seconded to approve the minutes from the General Meeting held on July 25, 2014. Motion was passed. Minutes can be found at the CSA website: http://www.epcc.edu/CSA/Pages/default.aspx. IV. Financial Report A breakdown of the revenue and expenses was discussed by Luci Gallardo. As the fiscal closing process is underway, totals reflected preliminary balances for year-end 2013-2014. The Employee Relief Fund has a present balance of $38,836.54. The Fundraising Account has a balance of $4,142.79. The Operational Account has a current balance of $334.67. V. New Business 1. Review of accomplishments by previous council Turkey Drive 2013 The CSA solicits monetary and turkey donations for this event. The total monies collected were $416.00 and 11 Turkeys were received. With the money collected, CSA was able to buy 27 additional turkeys. The El Pasoans Fighting Hunger Food Bank received 13 turkeys, the Rescue Mission of El Paso received 12 turkeys and The Center Against Family Violence received 13 turkeys. Christmas Dance 2013 Total Expenses for the Dance including cost of hall, decorations, and door prizes was $2198.55. ERF disbursements During the two year term, Council awarded $27,050.00 to applicants who were approved for funding. Financing for this is provided by revenue generate by the VV Craft Fairs. Classified Employee of the Year (EOY) Each year applications are submitted by staff members nominating a colleague for recognition as Employee of the Year. Applications are reviewed and voted upon by an independent committee and is based upon the application narrative, job performance, and work ethic. Last year’s EOYs were: Mireya Sandoval, Information Technology/PT ($150.00 award) David Rodriguez, Information Technology/FT ($250.00 award) Money awarded considered bonus to the employee; therefore, it is paid through payroll and subject to tax. Various Donations o Visiting Nurses Association (VNA) $200.00 Gift baskets were purchased by the VNA for the less fortunate in the community. o Soldiers Luncheon $100.00 Sponsored by Culinary Arts and supports Ft. Bliss soldiers who are unable to spend the Thanksgiving Holiday with their family. o Hispanic Heritage Dinner/Scholarship Fund $1,200.00 A portion of the ticket sales proceeds support scholarship fund o EPCC Staff Retreat $125.00 Donation used by facilitators to purchase door prizes for participants. Revisions to ERF application (confidentiality, limits, restrictions) The application, narrative, and supporting documentation is not shared with or submitted to anyone outside of Council. This allows us to be in compliance with HIPAA regulations and maintain the confidentiality of the applicant. If requested, items may be provided to external fiscal auditors. 2. Turkey Drive 2014 Turkey Drive -- Attendees were notified that the Turkey Drive is underway. Donations will benefit select non-profit organizations within El Paso County. Turkey donations will be accepted on the morning of Monday, November 24 and will be distributed later that afternoon. Monetary donations may be received by any CSA Officer and a receipt given for every donation. The individual or department who contributes the most will be recognized. 3. Christmas Dance 2014 Annual Christmas Dance -- Funds to hold event are generated solely by craft fair revenue. CSA is expected to, at minimum, break even. If approved by the Comptroller’s Office, the event will be held on Friday, December 19th from 8:00 pm – 1:00 am. Tickets will be $10 per person and is opened to the public. 4. Aspen Institute EPCC has been selected as a top 10 finalist for the Aspen Prize for Community College Excellence. This is a national recognition for which over 1,200 colleges are eligible to compete. The candidates were narrowed to a listing of 150, from which EPCC made the top 10. Constituency presidents will meet with representatives from the institute on Wednesday, September 24th. Site visits will be conducted at the VV and TM campuses. In addition, the culinary department will showcase the 1309 restaurant by providing lunch for the representatives. The college selected for this recognition will also receive a $1 million dollar award; winner to be announced in the Spring of 2015. 5. Classification and Compensation Study An independent Class & Comp Study will be conducted by Evergreen Solutions. Each job description will be reviewed and employees will be given an opportunity to complete a survey detailing the actual work performed. CSA will serve on a focus group (each constituency group make up a focus group). Additional focus groups will be offered to EPCC employees. Orientations will be held throughout the college. CSA encourages all employees to be thorough when completing the survey and to seek out assistance if needed. VI. Discussion Monthly General Meetings are conducted on the last Friday of each month (excluding November and December). The General Meetings are open to all EPCC employees and to the community; topics discussed typically deal with employee issues or are of interest to the general public. Meeting was adjourned at 11:45 a.m.
