4Sight Mathematics Assessment Who takes the 4Sight? Students in grades 3-8 are assessed using the 4Sight Mathematics Assessment. What does the 4Sight measure? The 4Sight Mathematics Assessment measures student proficiency on state standards in Mathematics. The items on the assessment are aligned to the Pennsylvania state standards in Mathematics. Beginning with the 2014-15 school year, the items on the assessment will be aligned with the PA Core Mathematics standards and therefore will provide a measure of mastery of these standards. The 4Sight is a trajectory test, which means that it is always measuring what the student should know and be able to do by the end of the year. As a result, it is not uncommon for students to score at a level below proficient in the beginning of the year and then improve to a proficient or advanced score as the year progresses. The test does NOT predict PSSA performance; instead it gives an idea of how the student would perform if the PSSA was given on that day. How long does the 4Sight take to administer? The 4Sight is a 60 minute assessment given on one day. How many times a year is the 4Sight administered? The 4Sight is administered twice a year, in September and January. How does the district use the results from the 4Sight? Schools use the 4Sight results to determine areas of strength and need overall and for individual students. This analysis informs the attainment of mastery of state standards, planning of interventions for struggling students, enrichment opportunities, and progress monitoring of growth in achievement. In addition, the results of the 4Sight are used to monitor curriculum alignment and instructional practices in order to inform curriculum development and professional development processes. How is the 4Sight score reported? The 4Sight composite scores are reported as a raw score, or the total number of points earned, and an estimated scaled score comparable to the PSSA score. A score is provided also for each mathematics content strand assessed by the 4Sight. This information allows teachers to focus on particular skill strengths and needs. Where can I access my child’s 4Sight data? 4Sight data can be provided by your child’s teacher. Beginning with the 2014-15 school year, 4Sight data will be available through the Home Access Center (HAC) system. All parents can request an account for HAC using a current email address.
