EXCELLENCE TODAY FOR TOMORROW SUPERINTENDENT’S REPORT – February 23, 2012 Student Awards – Recognition We recently learned that three of the 15,000 finalists selected by the National Merit Scholarship Corporation are Penncrest students. They will continue through the screening process until there are 8,400 remaining students who will be granted academic scholarships. We wish each of our finalists good luck as there is a lot at stake. We will invite these students to the March meeting for a presentation of certificates. Staff Awards and Nominations I am happy to report that two of our elementary teachers have been nominated for prestigious awards in the field of education, and we have been notified of one of them having won the award. Mr. Anthony Grisilo Mr. Grisillo has been nominated for PAGE Outstanding Educator Award for the outstanding work he does with our students who have been identified as gifted. Mr. Grisillo splits his time between Rose Tree Elementary and Glenwood Elementary Schools. Ms. Karen Daugherty and Mr. William Dougherty have written letters of nomination and we should hear the results in a few weeks. Ms. Nancy Gheysens Ms. Gheysens a Response to Instruction and Intervention teacher at Rose Tree Elementary School has been nominated by the principal, Karen Daugherty, for the prestigious Teacher’s Hero Award sponsored by the National Liberty Museum. The award honors the outstanding work of dedicated educators who give their best efforts every day to inspire, nurture and mentor students who are the future of our country and I am happy to announce that Nancy was named one of the 2011 winners of the award. The announcement was made yesterday and I hope to have Nancy attend the March Legislative Meeting to receive the full honors from the Board.
