North Penn High School Commemorating the 75th Anniversary of the Attack on Pearl Harbor November 20 – 27, 2016 Purpose The purpose of the Hawaii trip is to give student an experience of a lifetime and provide amazing performance opportunities in an event with educational value. Educational Value Students will visit the USS Arizona Memorial and meet WWII survivors at Pearl Harbor. Students will tour the USS Missouri Battleship, including the site where the Instrument of Surrender was signed in September 1945, ending World War II. Students will explore eight Polynesian cultures: Samoa, Tonga, Fiji, New Zealand, Marquesas, Hawaii, Rapa Nui, and Tahiti at the Polynesian Culture Center. Students will perform period music appropriate for the Pearl Harbor memorial and experience the Hawaiian culture, including the Waikiki Holiday Parade. Tour Company The band has selected Gateway Music Festivals & Tours to manage our trip. Gateway specializes in large group travel and knows how to meet the specific needs of a music group. Gateway has over 25 years of experience managing the travel needs of marching bands and other music organizations. Waikiki Holiday Parade P.O. Box 1165, Monticello, MN 55362 Phone: 1-800-331-8579 · Fax: (763) 295-6029 · www.waikikiholidayparade.com Trip Structure There will be two distinct groups on this trip: The Band Tour, which is designed for students; it is planned carefully to provide performance opportunities and educational value. Adults participating in the student trip will have chaperone duties, will follow NPSD chaperone guidelines, are required to pay for their trip and will not be financially compensated. Every day is structured, including “free-time.” Students are given responsibility and are not directly supervised 24 hours a day. There are many rules, boundaries, check-ins, attendance checks etc., that the chaperones will help facilitate. All students must travel with the Band Tour. The Friends & Family Tour, which is just what it sounds like. Itineraries for the two groups will overlap in some places and travel dates will be the same for both tours, the Friends & Family Tour will travel on different motorcoaches, will likely stay in a different hotel, this is a slightly different tour itinerary. Estimated pricing for the Friends & Family Tour will be advised when the hotel accommodations are confirmed. Discounts through use of frequent flyer miles or the like are not available through Gateway, but it is possible to purchase a Land Only package in conjunction with our Friends & Family Tour. Please contact Gateway for more information. All students must travel with the Band Tour. Eligibility/Discipline Any North Penn student in grades 9-12 and a member of our band or color guard program is eligible to participate. Students who have demonstrated significant discipline problems may sacrifice their eligibility. If a student violates school policy at any time during the trip, he/she may be sent home at the parent’s expense. The land prices are based on vendor rates available on 9/24/15 and are subject to increases imposed by vendors. The biggest influence of cost change comes from airfare, which cannot be secured this far in advance of the trip. Once airfare is confirmed, a final price will be issued to all passengers. The final month’s payment will fluctuate depending on the final cost of the trip. The prices and events in this proposal can only be confirmed upon receipt of a tour application and booking of activities. The price is subject to change according to the number of passengers. Air taxes and fuel surcharges are subject to change until tickets are issued, approximately 60 days prior to departure. Payments - Deposits already made will be applied to payments. All future payments will be made directly to Gateway. Payments will begin in December, 2015, at which time participants will be required to register with My Gateway (see below), and will be provided with a payment schedule. The Music Aides will send fundraised money to Gateway on behalf of students to be applied to their individual accounts. Fundraising The Music Aides will continue to help families by providing many fundraising opportunities throughout the year. Money you fundraise will be sent to Gateway by the Music Aides to be used toward student accounts. Students who have already submitted a Hawaii Intent Form and $100 deposit have a Student Credit account in which to accumulate credit from fundraising. The Music Aides provide many fundraising opportunities and it is up to families to take advantage of them. Student Credit can be used only towards student trips, not for family members. Fundraising money is non-refundable. Because we are a non-profit organization, Student Credit can only be used towards music program fees for the student, transferred to another student for use, or transferred to one of our general programming funds (such as Hardship, Director’s Fund or Instrument Replacement.)
